We will be supporting Dylan Coppock in his amazing 24 hours of golf challenge here at Hartford Golf:
“Hi, I am Dylan. I’m 14 years old. My big brother Oli is seriously ill in hospital after several brain operations.
He is provisionally diagnosed with partial locked in syndrome because his brain stem has been damaged. It means he can only communicate by yes and no using his eye lids, slight head movement or shrug. He cannot move his body from the head down. His mind is the same as it has always been. Alert, sharp and funny. That’s why it’s called locked in syndrome. It must be terrifying to be inside his head unable to make your body do even the simplest things. He breathes through a tracheotomy and is fed via a tube.
He’s a fighter with a spartan tattoo on his arm and he is going to rewire his brain so what he thinks in his mind will travel down different nerves and his body will do it. It starts with simply being able to wiggle his big toe. He can’t do that yet but he keeps trying. To help him recover the ability to use his body he will need specialist rehabilitation.
My 24 hour Golfathon is about making sure that as many people as possible hear about him. A few people will be kind enough to contribute what they can afford to his Go Fund Me fundraiser and, together, we will give my big bro the chance he deserves to get well. I want to see him again standing on his own two feet waving and cheering me on from the touchline whilst I play the game of my life in goal for him. He was one of my biggest fans.”
There is a Go Fund Me page set up here.
