Hello again golfers and welcome to our weekly missive, it's been a rather wet and wintry week but hopefully you've managed to venture out onto the golf course or the driving range at some point. As we are nearing the end of another great golfing year at Hartford we thought it would be a good idea to take a light hearted look back at 2015 and have our very own version of the Oscar's! We came up with the name of the HACA's - Hartford's Alternative Club Awards and there will be a number of categories for which we would love to hear your nominations, keep reading for more details and all this other news:

- Simon and Ian are hot in the latest Winter League
- Remember it is Black Friday ALL weekend!
- More Christmas gift inspiration
- Christmas opening times
- Who would you nominate for a HACA trophy?
- Christmas raffle reminder
- Ladies news (photos of autumn pairs final)
- Roy stays afloat in the Seniors Stableford
- Upcoming events

Club news

Who deserves a HACA trophy?

It's been another eventful year here at the club, we thought it would be a bit of fun to give out a few HACA's (Hartford's Alternative Club Awards) for some great (and not so great!) performances over the year, we've already got some good ideas of potential winners but we really want your nominations for golfers in the following:

Here are the categories:

- Shot of the year
- Round of the year
- Bandit of the year
- Biggest collapse of the year
- Club thrower of the year
- Worst dressed golfer of the year

Like we said we have a few ideas already but please let us know what you think and we'll have a bit of fun announcing the winners next week! Click here to give me your best suggestions!

Winter League update

The latest round of the Winter League was played on a cold but dry Sunday afternoon with 25 pairs competing and Ian Wharton and Simon Stephenson continued their good run with a 25 point winning total. Simon contributed birdies on the first, third and sixth hole whilst Ian chipped in with solid pars on the last two holes, they are now clear at the top of the League at the halfway stage. In second place were defending champions Julie Daines and James Eaton on 24 points, they scored birdies on holes three, five and seven and in third place were Pete Wildin and Ken Powell on 23 points.

The top four pairs after 4 rounds are:

1. Ian Wharton & Simon Stephenson 94 points
2. Julie Daines & James Eaton 87 points
3. Stuart Gray & Alan Tayler 85 points
4. Gareth Eaton & Liam Tyrer 79 points

The next competition is the December Medal coming up on Saturday 5th December with a start time of 10.28am.

Ladies news

Well done again to Ann Broster and Alison Worrall who won the ladies Autumn pairs trophy final last week (3 and 2) against lady Captain Ann Rowland and her partner Sandra Peake, we didn't have room in last week's newsletter for these action shots of the ladies on the first tee so we thought we'd include them this week - needless to say they all hit the fairway! There is a ladies 18 hole Winter Foursomes competition this Thursday starting at 9.32am.

Senior section

Our seniors are usually very lucky with the weather but they came a cropper this Tuesday morning as they played their 18 hole Stableford in what can only be described as monsoon-like conditions!

The heavens opened at about 9am and there was then non-stop rain throughout their round, only 13 brave players finished and it was Roy Strefford who came out on top with a very creditable 36 point total. Roy just edged out Pete Dawson (also 36 points) on a card play-off and in third place was Alan Nevin (34 points) who had a cracking back nine of 20 points!

There were many seniors who ended up looking like drowned rats when they came in and here's Ken Powell with his rather sodden score card!

Upcoming events

Ladies Winter Foursomes - Thursday 28th November 9.32am
Seniors 9 hole roll up - Tuesday 1st December 9.16am
Ladies 9 hole roll up - Thursday 3rd December 9.32am
December Medal - Saturday 5th December 10.28am

PING's Tour Eye jacket is certainly eye-catching, it looks super. There's no shortage of technology involved in its design as well, which you won't necessarily notice. You won't notice because this jacket does not restrict your golf swing, which is a benefit you can't under-estimate.

TaylorMade RSi

TaylorMade has two versions of the RSi - 1 and 2, plus a TP model. In this video we speak to TaylorMade's Sean Toulon about the technology that's involved which helps your mishits to be less destructive. Come and speak to us about the range and we'll be happy to discuss your fitting options.
