Hello again folks and welcome to our latest newsletter! I read an interesting article last week in which it was revealed that golf club theft from the household claims increased by a staggering 27% last October - the reason for this is put down to many people putting their clubs or trolleys away in their shed or garage as the golf season draws to an end. A Churchill Insurance spokesman said that 'with the majority of amateur players' golfing seasons coming to an end, it is no surprise that we see an increase in thefts of clubs and accessories in October. As the weather turns, people often stash their equipment in sheds or garages making it a prime target for thieves.'

So the moral of this story is be careful if you are one of those people that puts your clubs away and even better advice I would give is to just keep the clubs out and carry on golfing over the winter!

This week's news:

- Alan wins a close November Medal
- Presentation night coming up soon
- Have you started Christmas shopping yet?
- Titleist fitting day next week
- Di & Elspeth's foursomes success
- A great deal on a new Motocaddy trolley
- Seniors Winter League is underway
- Upcoming events

Competition news

November Medal Review

The November Medal was played on Sunday and luckily the early morning fog was replaced by bright sunshine as our golfers begun their rounds, it was a tight affair at the top as seven golfers were all within two shots of the lead. 13 handicapper Alan Nevin was the man who came out on top though as his nett 66 was good enough to hold off the challenge of three other golfers who returned nett 67's. The highlight of Alan's round was a birdie two on the seventh hole, Chris Coates took second place with his double birdie round and in third place was Steve Dunning who had three birdies in his round but he finished with a costly double bogey on the difficult eighteenth hole.

Simon Stephenson also had a cracking round with three birdies in his nett 67 but poor Simon mustn't like the sixth hole as he had nightmare scores of a seven and a ten on that hole, so it was one of those rounds that could have so much better maybe that's why some of his clubs were seen flying around!

The next competition is coming up this Saturday and it's the third round of the Winter League starting at 11am, let's hope the mild weather continues!

Ladies Winter Foursomes review

You know the winter season is upon us when the ladies start playing their foursomes events, the first one of the this season was played last Thursday and as usual it proved a tricky format for everyone to master. The good thing about foursomes is that it can a quick game to play on a cold day but it's also difficult as you can struggle to get into a rhythm playing as its alternate shots all the way round.

Di Sommerville and Elspeth Forbes were the pair that adapted the best to conditions and they returned a solid nett 75, in second place was the pairing of Joyce Graham and Collette Walling on 78 and in third were Ann Broster and Chris Lever also on nett 78.

The next ladies competition is a nine hole Stableford next Thursday starting at 9.32am.

Shop news

Christmas gift ideas a plenty in the shop!

As you read this newsletter it will be less than 50 days (or seven weekends) until Christmas so we make no apologies for mentioning that you should be thinking about starting your Christmas shopping. If you call into the shop you will see plenty of gifts inspiration including some great Glenmuir sweaters that also come in a smart display box, we also have new clothing in from FootJoy and Under Armour and also recently arrived is this stunning Brad wind stopper top from Galvin Green in true James Bond style British racing green! As I always say the photographs on here don't do these items justice you need to see them for yourselves so please call into the shop and have a look around I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Great news for our lady readers is that this week will also see the arrival of new winter ladies clothing from Under Armour, FootJoy and Nike and there are some really good items due that not only look good but will also keep you very warm on the course!

What would you type on your golf balls?

One of the best Christmas gift ideas is always golf balls, any golfer can never have enough balls and it just so happens that we have some great offers on at the moment, probably the best deal is the FREE personalisation that we are offering on a dozen Titleist golf balls so you can give a truly unique present - one of the most useful messages to have on the balls could be 'return to (insert golfers name) if found' another good message I saw on a golf ball was 'sorry if this hit you!'

Let me know if you think of any good messages you would like to see on your golf balls and we can bring you the best ones next week (and keep them clean - this is a family publication!).

How you can save £50 on a new Motocaddy electric trolley

As Christmas fast approaches many of you may be thinking of purchasing a new electric trolley, we've stocked Motocaddy trolleys for the last few years and they are the clear industry leader in the electric trolley market, their trolleys are extremely well made and reliable and they also offer very good value for money, I would have no hesitation in recommending Motocaddy trolleys above any other brand in the electric trolley sector.

Motocaddy are also offering a great deal at the moment which will be running all the way up until Christmas Eve, if you purchase any of their electric trolleys as long as it's a lithium battery version they will give you £50 cashback - and there are no strings to this offer! To redeem your £50 CASHBACK, you will need to visit www.motocaddy.com/cashback to register the warranty and complete a Claim Form. You then need to print the Claim Form and post it to Motocaddy along with the proof of purchase that we will give you - make sure that it's within 14 days of buying the trolley. Once Motocaddy receive the valid claim they will make a payment of £50 directly into your nominated bank account within 30 days of receipt.

In effect this means that you can purchase a new Motocaddy S1 trolley with a lithium battery for the absolute bargain price of £399 (you will pay £449 up front then get £50 back from Motocaddy).

Senior section

The seniors begun their Winter League on Tuesday, the format will be an Order of Merit type event where players earn points based on their finishing position - first place gets 10 points, second earns nine points and so on down to one point for tenth place.

The first event was won by Brian Whitworth (who seems to be playing better than his football team at the moment!) with 19 points, there was a four way tie at the top but Brian won courtesy of a card play-off. In second place was John Sykes and third place went to Stephen Tompkinson.

There was a great turnout of 35 seniors and it was good to see a few new faces!
