Masters sweepstake
It is now less than a week until the first major of the golf season - The Masters at Augusta. We are once again running our popular sweepstake with tickets available now in the shop priced at just £2 each, the winner receives a voucher for £125 and the runner up receives a £50 voucher, if your player comes dead last after 2 rounds you have the consolation of winning a £13 voucher!
For those of you that like to have a little flutter on the winner of The Masters I would tip Adam Scott to have a good tournament, he played well for the first 3 rounds last week at Bay Hill and has the experience of already winning at Augusta. It's hard to look past the Americans for other contenders although I'm sure Rory Mcilroy will also feature on the leaderboard. Good each way bets for me would be two young American golfers who have shown good form so far this season - Harris English and Jordan Spieth and perhaps also Song Moon Bae could offer good each way value at 200/1.
Club AGM and winter prize presentation
The club AGM took place on Sunday and it was well attended by around 40 members, after this there was a presentation for the winter competition winners, photographed are Winter League winners Julie Daines and James Eaton with new Captain Chris Bird.
Dave Johnson and Andie Fraser also received their Winter League runners up prizes from Chris. The Winter Order of Merit was won by Paul Underwood.
There was a 9 hole Stableford competition played before the AGM and amazingly it produced a tie between Ian Daines and Martin Major who had identical scores of 19 points and couldn't be separated even after a card play off, new Captain Chris Bird and Paul Underwood also scored 19 points.
Captain's Drive In this Sunday
The Captain's Drive In is coming up this Sunday 6th April at 12pm followed by the April Medal. It would be great to see a good turn out for this event as Chris Bird drives off and starts his year of captaincy. I'm sure he would love a big audience to see his opening tee shot and that he won't be nervous at all! Knowing Chris, I'm sure that he will also have a good clothes outfit planned with matching colours!
The entry sheet is up on the notice board now and it's still not too late to enter please arrive for just before 12pm if you can.
Entry sheets are now also up for the Singles and Pairs knockouts. See the notice board for more details, the entry fee is £5 per player.
There was an 18 hole ladies Greensomes competition last Thursday and the winning pair were Alaine Britton and Margaret Cherry with a good score of nett 70, that made it 2 wins in a row for Alaine who has hit a bit of form! In second place were Elspeth Forbes and Collette Walling and third went to new and previous Lady Captains Jill Bebbington and Kath Hough.
The next ladies competition is a 9 hole Stableford on Thursday 10th April.
Shoe trade in offer now on
Our shoe trade in offer has now started and will be running throughout April, you can trade in any old pair of golf shoes and get up to a £20 discount off a new pair of shoes. When we ran this offer last April we had over 40 pairs of old (some very old!) shoes traded in against new pairs. It's a great chance for you to upgrade your shoes, getting a new pair at a discounted price and helping get rid of an old pair that may be gathering dust in your garage!
Tony Ledson trading in a pair of his old shoes last year, we reckoned they were about 30 years old!
New product spotlight - Nike Lunar Swingtip Canvas shoes
Now that the weather is improving and the fairways are getting firmer you may want to look at a spikeless shoe, they have been very popular over the last couple of years and they provide just as good traction in the summer as a traditional spiked golf shoe. This latest offering from Nike is a perfect summer shoe with a full-length 'Lunarlon' sockliner and weight-activated traction for optimum comfort and surface grip. The shoes are ultra lightweight and their canvas upper means that they are ultra-comfortable just like a pair of trainers but they also offer a fashionable slant on a golf shoe and they especially look good when worn with shorts. The best thing about these shoes though is that they are reasonably priced at just £49.99, if you would like to try a pair on please call in to the shop.
Personalised Titleist ProV1 balls at only £30 a dozen
