New PING demo irons have arrived
If you keep up with the latest golf equipment you will know that PING have launched 2 new irons recently - the ultra-forgiving GMax and the sleek iE1 irons that have replaced the i25 irons. PING have been at the top of the tree in terms of golf equipment sales for years and their G30 range is the number one selling model in Britain in every department - irons, woods, fairways and hybrids, which really does take some doing!
With their latest release of irons PING have again continued the trend of making great golf clubs that really work, the GMax iron is aimed at a mid-high handicapper looking for extreme forgiveness and distance whilst the iE1 irons will suit an aspiring mid-low handicapper looking for a moderately forgiving iron that gives good shot control and accuracy.
As always we are providing a full expert club fitting service on these PING new irons and one area where PING really have improved is that the irons come with a good selection of custom shaft options at no extra cost that you can also try out and get fitted for including the popular Rifle Project X shaft.
If you would like to book a fitting session please contact me here.
Neil claims his first win
It's always good to see a member claim their first competition win and that was the case for Neil Dunning on Saturday as he surged to victory in the August Medal with a fine nett 65, this win means that Neil has qualified for the end of season Hartford Masters and his handicap has fallen to 21, well done Neil!
Thanks to Vice-captain Paul Underwood for sharing this video of Neil's celebration dance on Saturday evening! Click here to have a look!
It was close at the top as in form Steve Hulse also scored a nett 65 but he had to settle for second place after a card play-off, Steve recently won the June Midweek Medal and this was his fourth round recently that has been level with or under his handicap. In third position was young 28 handicapper Ben Barrow who played extremely well in his first men's competition to shoot a nett 67.
Interestingly there was only one two scored which was by Steve Hulse on the second hole, so it should be a good amount of golf balls Steve wins from the two's pool!
This Sunday we play a Texas Scramble competition, registration starts from 11am when players will be drawn at random to form teams, and the first tee-off will be at 12.04pm.
Captain's Day news
The Captain's Day organised by men's captain Liam Tyrer and Lady Captain Annie Rowland is just over two weeks away now on Saturday 22nd August, there will be the usual 18 hole Stableford event starting at 11am with the ladies playing before the men, including the on-course drinks buggy driving around.
After the golf there is a good chance that the tradition of the men's captain visiting the ninth pond for a nice swim will probably be continued, I'm sure that you will all make sure Liam doesn't avoid a soaking! Once Liam has dried off it will be on to the evening's entertainment where there will be live music, a disco, casino and a BBQ starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets are normally £25 for the evening with a smart casual dress code however we are doing an early bird discount on tickets so they are £20 each when bought in advance - they are available now in the bar, please buy in advance as it will cost you more on the night!
New online tee-booking system going live this week
We are moving across to a new improved online tee-booking system run by BRS, there will be links to it through our website and it is very easy to use, you just have to register initially with your name and e-mail address and you can then book tee-times and also pay online. There will be various special offers on green fees booked online including twilight rates and four ball discounts, if you are a visitor you can book and pay online so you don't have to worry about bringing money with you when you come to play.
The online booking system can be accessed here, if you click on the link you can register now as a user.

Well done also to the following winners of the last junior competition, for which we had a record turnout of players, the winners were Ben Barrow, Toby Marsden, Matthew Dee, Charlie Dexter and Oliver Brown. All of you win a voucher which is available to collect in the shop if you haven't already done so! The next junior competition is this Saturday at 1pm and there is an entry sheet on the junior notice board.
It was very quiet here on Tuesday morning as the seniors were on the senior captain's away day at Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club, here is a photograph of Captain Roger Wilkinson presenting the Claret Jug trophy to the day's winner Rod Royle, who scored a brilliant 39 points.
In second place was Alan Nevin and Andy Ingleby came third, by all accounts a good day was had by all 27 of the seniors that played, the weather was dry but windy and the greens were apparently very slick, obviously this didn't challenge Rod!

Seniors nine hole roll up - Tuesday 11th August 9.16am
August Midweek Medal - Wednesday 12th August
Ladies nine hole Stableford - Thursday 13th August 9.32am
