It was great to enjoy some fine weather at the weekend, especially on Saturday, and as a result the course was full of enthusiastic golfers enjoying the spring sunshine. The golf course certainly seems a more pleasant place when you can play in a short sleeved shirt and the sun is shining, hopefully this will be the start of Spring! With the Masters tournament in Augusta being less than a month away, soon the season will be in full swing!
Dustin Johnson returned to the winners circle at the World Golf Championships at Doral after a six month hiatus from the tour and he certainly looks to have shaken the rust off his game. Johnson is at his best when his driver is working and he was certainly on song with the big stick last week as he averaged an amazing 328.3 yards with his new TaylorMade Aero Burner driver.

James and Julie retain the Winter League Trophy
James Eaton and Julie Daines proved that they really are the Winter League specialists as they won the final on Saturday to win the trophy for the second year in a row.
The final pitted James against his younger brother Gareth partnered with Liam Tyrer, it was a great battle as Gareth and Liam made the better start being two up after nine holes and it was looking good for them as they moved to three ahead with just five holes left to play. However, James made a brilliant birdie two on the fourteenth to reduce the arrears to two down and spark a possible comeback. Halves on fifteen before a win for James and Julie on sixteen reduced the deficit some more, and when Gareth and Liam both went out of bounds on seventeen it meant the pairs stood on the last tee all square. With the pressure on coming up the last a par from James on the difficult eighteenth was good enough to win the match for James and Julie, well done on retaining the Trophy for another year!
Hole in one
A big well done to Stuart Fallows who had his first hole in one last week, Stuart was playing with fellow members Jean Clare and Dave Gregory and he used his trusty 8 iron to ace the par three fifth hole.
We hope it didn't cost you too much in the bar afterwards Stuart!

This week we are bringing you a profile of one half of our Winter League winning duo - Julie Daines. Julie was one of our first lady members and she was Lady Captain in 2009. Julie managed to do this profile for me whilst reclining on her sun lounger on holiday in Spain this week, hope you're having fun!
What is your current handicap and when did you start playing golf? - 'It's currently 25 and I've been playing golf for 8 years, I took it up to start with as I felt like a golf widow as my husband Ian was already a Hartford golfer. As soon as I started playing I got the bug and haven't looked back - love it!'
Your favourite/least favourite hole at Hartford? - 'Least favourite is definitely the second, my golf partner James Eaton says I should use a driver and I always do but in my head I know I shouldn't as the out of bounds right always catches me out! My favourite is probably an usual choice but I would pick the ninth hole, I feel like I can open up with my driver and aim at the pond on the left, also love the challenge of negotiating the two ponds around the green, when I do it's a real sense of achievement.'
Your favourite course that you have played? - 'I find it hard to say I have a favourite. I do love Hartford though and I think it's a course that offers as good a test as any, but I also love the National in Turkey.'
If you could play any course in the world where would it be? - 'I would love to play Augusta - it's got to be the best course in the world and the whole aura of the place is amazing'
What's the best round of your life? - 'I scored a nett 58 at Hartford when my handicap was coming down quickly, but my best round is when I won the Hartford Masters in 2009, I scored a nett 65 and I was well chuffed to win my first board competition. My best achievement is definitely winning the Winter League 2 years in a row with James.'
Who would be in your dream fourball? - 'I would choose Seve, Ian Poulter, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke, but unfortunately that will never happen now. I would be more than happy playing with any combination of the Nevin's and Wharton's and my husband Ian.'
