Hartford Masters review... |
It might not win any style awards but every Hartford member wants to wear this jacket as it means they are the 'champion of champions'. We believe the jacket was donated by two time winner Dave Johnson and now it is part of Hartford Golf Club folklore as it is presented to our Masters winner each year at our presentation night.
This years Masters was contested by 23 golfers who had earned the right to be there courstesy of a win or high finish in one of this season's competitions. Ben Barrow was defending champion and he put up a solid defence with a nett 70 in tough, breezy conditions.
But Ben had to settle for second place this year as there was a convincing winner in Aaron Cameron on nett 66. Aaron was one of the last qualifiers, through the September Medal, and this was just his fifth competition and first board competition win - but it probably won't be the last, playing like this! Aaron has dropped his handicap by 6 shots to 26.

What a record-breaking season it has been.... |
We paly the last competition of the summer season this Saturday and, as usual, the President's Trophy marks the culmination of what has been a pretty unusual season. Considering all the uncertainty in the world whilst we still battle a global pandemic it's amazing to think we have played virtually all of our summer competitions and with record entry numbers! The singles knockout final will pit Adam Duxbury against James Pearson. Whilst James also features in the pairs final with partner Alex Wass taking on and Steve Wilkinson. We'll let you know how these matches go.
As well as the President's Trophy is a board competition it is also the last competition of the Summer Order of Merit - can Fin Waterhouse hold on to his slender lead? Amazingly there are still eight golfers who could win the title of most consistent player of the season, including defending champion Ian Daines. In the eclectic's Tim Barnes leads the gross and Adam Yardley tops the nett but again that could change after Saturday, plus we have a bumper two's pot after another rollover. So much to play for, no wonder we have a huge turn out of 79 entrants!

It was the final Midweek Medal of the season last week and courtesy of an eigth place finish Nathan Whiltow won the Midweek Order of Merit ahead of John Backhouse in second place.
Divison two winner and best score on the day came from young Joe Booth with a fine nett 64, Joe's round included two birdies. He just pipped Neil Partington after a card play off.
Rob Britton continued his good from with a nett 64 to win division one, the Stag Tropohy winner saw his handicap reduced to 17 after this latest good round and Rob will be one of the favourites in this Saturday's President's Trophy.

It was something different for the seniors last week as they played the course as never before with an 11 hole 'cross-country' format including a par 7 hole of nearly 700 yards to start! But lots of fun was had and there were plenty of birdies despite the unkown nature of the course. Winning team were Ken Powell, Keith Morrish, Paul Green and Tony Ravenscroft.
This Tuesday the seniors were back to normal, a record 49 players participated in their 9 hole Stableford. Steve Tompkinson was the winner with 21 points, whilst lefty Graham Belt showed his is getting to grips with the course as he came second with 20 points.
The Monday ladies Stableford was won by Marj Afzal, those lessons with Adam are already paying off! Marj just edged out Sandra Peake as both scored 17 points. Whilst on Thursday it was Jane Wright showing her new PING clubs are doing the business as she claimed victory in the 9 hole Stableford, just ahead of Sarah Walker. We'd also like to send our best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery to lady member Pauline Nevin, sure you will be back golfing in no time Pauline!

A new era? Bryson DeChambeau’s U.S. Open victory was dominant, comprehensive and (however you feel about the man) impressive. Having transformed his body by adding extraordinary amounts of muscle, ‘The Mad Scientist’ has developed a completely unorthodox golf swing. In fact, during his winning round on Sunday, commentators compared his driver swing side-by-side with a top baseball player! The big-driving American wasn’t alone in breaking the mould, though. Matthew Wolff, the eventual runner-up, moves his knees more like an Elvis Presley dance move than a PGA Tour winner’s golf swing. Both of these men, alongside world number one Dustin Johnson, go to show that there is definitely no one way to swing a golf club. It was also a good weekend for Kieran Underwood who won a total of £170 in shop credit after he picked DeChambeau in our sweep! At the end of the day, it's all about shooting the best score you can, regardless of how you get there. So, no matter what your swing looks like, let us help you make the most of it with some tailored one-to-one coaching. Simply click the button below or call us on 01606 871162 to get in touch.
