A splash of fun on Captain's day.....
|
Saturday had more of an emphasis on fun and raising money for charity as Captain Chris Whalley hosted his Captain's Day Texas Scramble. Luckily the weather was on our side and thank you to all the members who helped raise around £800 for Cheshire Downs Syndrome. It's not your typical golf photos that accompany this write up as Captain Chris upheld a long-standing tradition of the Captain getting dunked into the 9th pond. In line with social distancing, he wasn't thrown in, but instead, his kids gave him a bit of a push, a role they certainly seemed to relish! You can watch the video here. As you can see it wasn't quite a Tom Daley-esque entry into the pond but Chris was a great sport. He also had a good day on the course as his team won the competition, his winning teammates were John McHugh and Marc Humphries. Chris also won one of the nearest the pins, alongside Matthew Dufty and Dave Johnson. Longest drive went to Kieran Underwood. |
Bank Holiday Stableford results |
Sue was Gunning for victory on Monday as she scored a brilliant 41 points to clinch first place in the last Bank Holiday Stableford of the summer. In sunny conditions Sue went out with 20 points and her back nine of 21 points was set up by a great run of three pars in four holes from the 13th to the 16th. Sue's retrun to form sees her handicap fall from 27 to 24. In division one the best score came from Ian Daines, in another steady season Ian has reduced his handicap from 11.6 to 10.6, Ian was a birdie machine on Monday firing four of them including a birdie on the difficult last hole. Big Bertha is back!
One of Callaway's best-known models over the years has been the Big Bertha family and they have just received an exciting update in the form of B21! If you struggle with losing shots to the right the new B21 driver and fairway woods could be for you, without changing your swing they can help you unlock distance you already have by hitting the ball straighter. B21 woods are also perfect for slower swing speeds and if you need a bit of help launching the ball then these are for you. There is also a pretty good ladies range called the Reva. In short, the B21 clubs will suit a lot of golfers and if you want to try them or book a fitting then get in touch with us now, you'll be impressed - we promise! Click here to learn more.

When it's wet get the best! |
We often get asked "what are the best waterproofs on the market?" and our response, without fail, is Galvin Green. One essential aspect of your golf equipment has to be an effective waterproof suit. If you buy a Galvin Green jacket or trousers you are buying them for life, all their waterproofs are GoreTex and this is so good it comes with a lifetime guarantee. Here are 3 reasons why you should invest in a Galvin Green suit: - You won't need to buy another suit, it will not only keep you dry but last you a lifetime of golfing in the rain.
- Some waterproof jackets are restrictive or not great to play in, with a Galvin Green jacket you will forget that you're wearing it with unrivalled 4-way stretch allowing complete freedom to swing in and total breathability..
- They not only look good but an inner shell in Galvin jackets will keep you warm and protect you from elements like the wind as well as rain. This is why you see golfers wearing Galvin Green jackets even just on cold days.
Call in and we can show you through the range, it will be a long winter without good waterproofs!

Top two showdown What better way to finish a PGA Tour event than a shoot-out between the world’s top two players? Dustin Johnson, World No. 1, needed to nail a winding 43-foot putt over a ridge on the final hole to force a playoff… And he did. The putt lasted an incredible 10 seconds. World No. 2 Jon Rahm must’ve felt sick heading out for the first playoff hole. If he did, he hid it well. The Spaniard made DJ’s miracle putt look mediocre as he sunk one from 66-feet for victory. That’s what I call pinch-yourself golf! If you’d like to learn to putt a little more like Rahm and DJ, or work on any other part of your game, send us a message via the button below and we'll be happy to help.
