The ladies recently played a board competition in the shape of the Midweek Trophy, and in her first season here as a member, Kathleen Belt got her name on the trophy with a 32 point winning score - a great achievement! Last years champion Chris Paxton put up a brave defence of her title with 31 points in second place. It's not long now until the ladies Club Championship on Sunday 6th and Thursday 10th September, entries are now open.
It was a strange occurrence that as many ladies played a nine hole event on the same day as played in the board competition. The winner of this was Jean Clare with 16 points, Audrey Kettle took second place on 15 points. In the previous Monday Stableford, it was Lady Captain Alaine Britton leading from the front with a great 21 point score, Jane Elliott was runner up with 19 points. You can view all the ladies results here.

The Captain's Trophy is another board competition and we played for it last Saturday. After heavy showers in the morning, conditions didn't look good but luckily most of our members stayed dry for their rounds with just a testing breeze and some tricky pin positions to contend with!
39 points were the best score, which shows how tough the course was playing and also there weren't any two's scored. So we have a big rollover to the September Medal on Saturday 5th, make sure you enter the two's pool on that day..... Lewis Pendleton-Briers was the star man with his 39 points score, it's his second board victory of a stellar first season as a member. After starting on 24 Lewis is now down to a 17 handicap, great progress! Runner up in division one was Antony Green with 38 points whilst Jane Brown took the honours with 38 points in division two.

Captain's Day this Saturday.... |
Captain's day is always a great social occasion with a bit of golf thrown in! It might be a bit different this year but Captain Chris is still hoping that we can have some socially distanced fun this Saturday as we play a nine-hole Texas Scramble followed by a BBQ and drinks on the patio, let's hope the sun shines! The Captain's Day is always good fun and it's a nice break from all the high-pressure board competitions we play on most Saturdays. We plan to have a drinks buggy going round the course and traditionally the Captain gets thrown into the pond after the golf, but in the correct socially distanced climate Captain Chris may have to throw himself in there this Saturday! At the moment we have a record 87 members signed up for Saturday, but there are some spaces left if you wish to play, you can sign up by clicking here. Guests are more than welcome to attend the post-golf BBQ and there is plenty of space out on the patio. We will also be showing the 'curtain raiser' for the football season - the Community Shield Final between Liverpool and Arsenal in the clubhouse at 4pm.
All in all, it promises to be a great day, so be sure to be a part of it!

Popov and DJ in leagues of their own There are sporting shocks, and then there’s the World No. 304 winning a Major! Germany’s Sophia Popov finished on -7 at Royal Troon to claim victory at the AIG Women’s Open. Despite having never won on the LPGA or Ladies European Tour before, the 27-year-old fought off challenges from stars like World No. 8 Minjee Lee and seven-time Major Champion Inbee Park. Meanwhile, on the PGA Tour, Dustin Johnson won The Northern Trust, the first FedEx Cup playoff event, by shooting a staggering -30. That ended up being an 11-stroke victory, which raises the age-old question of what’s more entertaining:
An all-out birdie fest or tough, battling golf? Shooting these sort of scores requires immense confidence in your game. So, if there's a part of yours that you're particularly struggling with, send us a message below and we'll be happy to help.
