Even at this early stage in the year we have had some great new equipment arrivals in the shop - we have the new 2015 TaylorMade metal woods in the R15 and Aero Burner ranges. As any serious golfer will know TaylorMade’s R series of drivers have been some of the best drivers in golf over the last few years and the R15 is the latest release to coincide with the fifteenth year of the famous R series. The R15 again follows the technological theory of having the centre of gravity low and forward for high launch and low spin meaning that you still need to ‘loft up’. However where they have really improved the R15 is with adding not one but two movable weight ports – this means that you can move 25 grams of weight to optimise your distance. If the weight ports are central they maximise distance, if they are on the heel they promote draw and if the weights are moved to toe and heel they maximise stability and MOI meaning straighter drives.
Rather than bore you with too much technology talk I would like a reader to volunteer for a FREE fitting with the new R15 driver – they can then offer an independent review of how well the driver performs and I’m sure that when it’s set up correctly it will offer great distance and forgiveness.

Members profile
This week we bring you a profile of our 2005 Captain, Martin Major:
What is your current handicap and when did you start playing golf? - 'It's 8 at the moment and I started playing at age 14 in Middlesbrough, I joined Hartford in 2002'
Have you had any holes in one? - 'I've been lucky enough to have had two, both as a junior when I was playing at Teeside Golf Club'
What's you favourite/least favourite hole at Hartford? - 'My favourite is the 14th off the white tees as it's just a great par 3 - one of the best I have played anywhere. My least favourite is the 2nd hole as it's a really hard green to hit and if you miss it you're always faced with a difficult chip - which isn't the strong point of my game!'
Your favourite course you have played? -'I've played a few great courses but my favourite is Kingsbarns, I've played there three times and every time it's blown me away with the stunning views of the North Sea, it's also a difficult course but still playable for the average golfer.'
What course in the world would you like to play? - 'Pebble Beach in California - I love links courses and this looks like the best of them all it would be a dream come true to play it - maybe my wife Andrea will treat me to a trip there one day!'
Favourite golfer? - 'For me it's definitely Sir Nick Faldo as he was at the top of the professional game when I was getting into golf as a youngster and he was the one I always aspired to be like'
Who would be in your dream fourball? - 'It would be Faldo, Lee Trevino because I'm sure that he would have some great stories and jokes to tell and it would have to be Seve Ballesteros as I would like to get a few short game tips from him!'
January Medal results
The first competition of the year was the January Medal on Saturday, it was a wet start but the rain did ease off on the back nine. Conditions didn't do much to hinder Mike Angel as he scored a nett 65 to claim his second victory of the winter season, the highlight of his round was a birdie on the thirteenth hole. Mike just edged out Order of Merit leader Gareth Eaton on a card play off, according to Gareth his fine round of nett 65 was achieved thanks to his new FootJoy rain gloves he purchased from us that kept his grip solid even when the rain was at it's heaviest.
65 was a popular total as Steve Simmons also scored this but lost out on the card play off, the next competition is the sixth round of the Winter League this Sunday afternoon.
Please note that we have moved the January Midweek Stableford back a week to Wednesday 21st January - this is to avoid a clash with the Age UK golf morning.
Due to the frozen conditions last week the Seniors had to delay their December 18 hole Stableford however it was played on Tuesday and at the top of the pile was a familiar name. Alan Tayler, who also recently won the November Bogey, finished first with 40 points, in second place was another steady player in Ken Powell who scored 37 points and third place went to John Sykes with 37 who has played some great golf since a series of lessons with Adrian.
In terms of competitions, the ladies have had a Christmas break but there is a nine hole Stableford next Thursday 16th January with a start time of 9am.
Winter League round 6 – Sunday 11th January 12.04pm
Seniors 9 hole Stableford – Tuesday 14th January 9.16am
AGE UK golf morning – Wednesday 15th January 9am-11.32am
Ladies 9 hole Stableford – Thursday 16th January 9am
January Stableford – Saturday 17th January 11am
