Seniors Club Championship review

Exceptional scoring from the seniors

It was the big one for the seniors last Tuesday as they played for their Club Championship.

It was probably a record turn out for this competition as 35 seniors tee'd it up in the 18 hole strokeplay event. The scoring was exceptional as the winner was Steve Tomkinson with an eight-under-par nett 62. This was only just good enough though as Graham Bower also scored nett 62 but missed out after the dreaded card playoff. A birdie on hole 15 proved crucial for Steve as he won his first-ever seniors board competition.

Third place went to stalwart Alan Nevin on nett 65. It's great to see the seniors back to such big turnouts every week after the uncertainties of the last few months.

Making up for lost time

Another weekend and it was another board competition as we try to make up for lost time in the fixture list. The weather was against us on Saturday as our competitors played their entire rounds in the rain but Head Greenkeeper Dan still set the course up in pristine condition.

Because of the constant rain scoring wasn't particularly low and the winning total in this bogey competition was 4 up from Javier Lang. Javier had birdies on the first and tenth and won a total of 7 holes against just 3 losses. In form Fin Waterhouse ran Javier close as he also finished on 4 up but losing the last hole cost him victory as Fin lost the countback, he still finished as division two winner though and now tops the Order of Merit.

Other good rounds came from Craig Humphries and Rob Mossford both on 3 up whilst nearest the pin winner was Justin Hyam and the longest drive winner was Jack Rea.

Two's earnt a very respectable £31.50 paid into the accounts of the four winners.

Midweek Medal results....

Another busy one!

Last Wednesday we played another busy Midweek Medal - 69 competitors were vying to take the honours.

Winner was Nathan Whitlow with a fine nett 62, Nathan even had a ten on the treacherous 12th hole but this didn't derail him and pars on two of the last three holes capped off a great round. It was only Nathan's second competition but already his handicap has dropped from 28 to 23.

Gary Cashmore took the honours in division one as he scored a brilliant nett 63, Gary had some finish as he went birdie-birdie on the 16th and 17th holes, but for a bogey on the last he may have taken the overall victory.

Amazingly eight of the top ten players were from division one.

The next Midweek Medal will take place on Wednesday 12th August, you can sign up for it two weeks before.

Don't forget our club amnesty

Time for a clearout?

Now is the ideal time to clear out your garages and get rid of any unwanted clubs that you may have. We have declared a club amnesty and we will take old clubs off your hands.

We will take any clubs as long they were made in 2000 or onwards and also with iron sets there can't be any missing irons. Other than that there is no limit to what we will take!

We have already given out hundreds of pounds in shop credit as you've already been bringing clubs in in your droves!

The amnesty will last until at least the end of the month.

Golf on Tour

Tiger returns!

Tiger Woods made his return to golf at The Memorial Tournament, playing at a Jack Nicklaus-designed course alongside Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka. That’s pretty cool!

Muirfield Village, better known as Jack’s Place, proved to be a brutal beast. 3-over was enough to make the cut and even-par enough for a share of 10th, with even the world’s best notching double and triple bogeys.

Jon Rahm became just the second Spaniard in history, behind Seve Ballesteros, to become World No.1 after a convincing victory in Ohio. Despite going +5 on Sunday’s back-nine, Rahm cruised to a three-stroke win.

Rahm’s final score of -9 will not jump off the page of PGA Tour winners, but numbers could never tell the story of just how much Jack’s Place demanded.

Gapping: How, what & why?

How well do you know each club in your bag? Perhaps more importantly, how well do you know your entire set? Your clubs are not individual tools, so it's always useful to look at them as a set to identify any problematic areas.
