As we continue to get back on track with the season we played our second Major of the summer in the Barnes Trophy on Saturday. A huge thank you to Head Greenkeeper Dan Ashelby for setting the course up in superb condition that befitted a major. There is another board competition coming up this Saturday as we play the Benny Trophy from 11am onwards. Conditions were good which led to some low scores and there will be a new name on the honours boards as Lewis Pendelton-Briers won his first major here at Hartford with a scintillating nett 62. It was just Lewis' fifth competition here as a member but he is settling in quickly as his handicap falls to 20 after this impressive victory.
Lewis claimed the overall trophy whilst Chris Newton claimed bragging rights in division one with a fine nett 64 ahead of John Backhouse on nett 67. Nearest the pin winners were Alex Wass and Craig Smith. In the Order of Merit John Backhouse moves into the lead, but the top five are separated by just 2 points.
