Winter League round-up
Things are definitely getting interesting in the Winter League, we have now played 7 out of 8 qualifying rounds and the battle is well and truly on to clinch a place in the all-important top 8 positions on the league table. The latest round on Sunday was played in misty but dry conditions and the best score came from Tim Barnes and Jack Brownrigg (pictured below), who both contributed well to their 24 point total with Tim firing birdies on 4,6 and 8 whilst Jack chipped in with a crucial birdie on the 9th to see them finish top. Wayne Allen and Chris Graham scored 23 points, whilst Ben Barrow and Joel Cann kept themselves in contention by also scoring 23 points. Interestingly this was the sixth different pair to win out of seven rounds and on Sunday13 pairs scored 20 points or more on a day of good scoring. The crucial last round takes place this Saturday at 11am and we can expect fireworks! The quarter-final matches are scheduled for Saturday 8th February.

Winter League standings At one stage the Daines' had a huge Liverpool-like lead but after missing a round and good scores coming in from other pairs they have been reeled in but still hold on to top spot, Jack and Tim made a huge move up the table from 8th place to 3rd. The two Alan's are clinging on to the final qualifying spot at the moment but pairs such as Ben and Joel are sitting close behind, they are one of three pairs that are just one point off the top 8. 1. Julie & Ian Daines - 113 points 2. Kieran & Paul Underwood - 111 points 3. Tim Barnes & Jack Brownrigg - 106 points 4. Antony Green & Dave Johnson - 106 points 5. Gary Cashmore & Javier Lang - 106 points 6. Paddy Scanlan & Chris Bird - 106 points 7. Gareth Eaton & Liam Tyrer - 104 points 8. Alan Tayler & Alan Royle - 102 points
9. Ben Barrow & Joel Cann - 101 points 10. Alex Wass & James Pearson - 101 points 11. Chris Whalley & Edward Williams - 101 points 12. Justin Hyam & Neil Partington - 99 points

Daily Mail Men's Foursomes qualifier
The top pair in our foursomes competition on Saturday were Jay Moran and Stuart Gray (pictured below), who enjoyed a birdie-fest with three birdies more than offsetting their two blobbed holes to set up a 35 point winning total.
Jay and Stuart will now be entered as our representatives in the Daily Mail Foursomes competition in which they will be drawn to play against a pair from another local club.
Runners up were Javier Lang and Lucy Barks on 32 points.

Ladies catch up..... The ladies played their first competition of the year last Thursday and it was a nine-hole Stableford, Lady vice-captain Alaine Britton has had a steady winter so far and she notched her second victory with a solid round of 18 points. Sandra Peake started this year just the way she finished last year, with another high finish to take runners up prize with 16 points, Sandra hasn't finished outside the top 7 all winter - definitely a consistent performer! Well done to Kath Hough who scored a fine birdie two on the tricky second hole.

We're also sad to report that Lady Captain Chris Paxton has suffered a broken leg and she will be out of action until some time in the summer, Chris slipped in her garden at the weekend and fell awkwardly, all the members are wishing you a speedy recovery Chris and we're sure you will be back golfing again in no time.
At least it gives some of the other ladies a chance to win!

Equipment preview This week we're previewing a new range of putters from Odyssey that should be hitting the shelves from next week. You will probably recognise Triple Track technology from some of the Callaway golf balls that were on the market last year (Phil Mickelson is a big fan amongst others) so it made perfect sense to bring this 3-line visual alignment aid to the Odyssey putters range too. The result is what we think is the easiest to align putter range we have ever seen and the result will be improved accuracy and more holed putts. The Triple Track idea works so well on the golf balls that Callaway have expanded their range this year to include more models. A little known fact about Triple Track technology is that it's an idea borrowed from aircraft carriers in which the 3 lines are used to guide jet planes to land on their narrow strips, if it works for the military we're sure it can help you on the greens! Look out for the putters in store from next week and they start from £199 - available in a variety of head shapes and lengths in both right and left hand. As a special introductory offer - the first 5 golfers to purchase a new Triple Track putter from us will also receive a FREE sleeve of Callaway Triple Track golf balls as using the putter and ball like in our photograph will maximise the full performance benefits!
