December Medal review It was nice to get some decent weather on Saturday for the Medal and the benign conditions, coupled with the shorter winter tees, meant that the course was there for the taking and our members didn't miss out as we saw some bumper scores. Paul Underwood took the honours with 46 points, hitting 13 greens in regulation and scoring an impressive 14 pars and 1 birdie off his 13 handicap. Paul didn't even score on the third hole after his second shot went OOB but this was his only blemish in an almost flawless round which sees his handicap drop to a career low of 12. Funnily enough, runner up - John Backhouse - also missed out on points on the third hole but despite this he amassed 26 points on his first nine holes and after eleven holes he already had 32 points on his card! John lost momentum on the last seven holes but still managed 45 points and gained some more valuable Order of Merit points. In third place, Steve Hulse scored 44 points with 24 of them coming on his front nine. There were nine two's recorded with Steve notching a very impressive three two's - shame he didn't enter the two's pool! The average score amongst the top 10 finishers was 41.4 points and Order of Merit leader Ian Daines finished only sixth with a 42 point score. Click here to view all the competition results. This Saturday we play Round 5 of the Winter League starting at 11am, as usual the tee-sheet is full for this ever-popular competition. Get your Christmas jumpers ready for the Turkey Trot on Sunday, 22 December at 11am.

A great week for Brian! Brian Whitworth has looked pretty disconsolate most Monday mornings as his beloved football team Manchester United have had their struggles but Brian was a lot happier this week after two good results for his team and a win of his own with the seniors last Tuesday! Brian scored 18 points in the nine hole Stableford which was good enough for first place, he was the only player out of 34 entrants to play to his handicap on a breezy, icy cold morning. Frank Yarwood came second with 16 points and third place went to Fred Capper on 15 points.

Another victory for Chris Another week - another victory for Lady Captain Chris Paxton. Since September, Chris has notched six... yes SIX first place finishes in various ladies competitions as well as another three runner up prizes. Captaincy has certainly not harmed Chris' game and in fact it seems to have taken it to another level this winter, well done Chris - those winners vouchers will be boosting your account nicely for Christmas! The latest win for Chris came with a nett 37 score in the ladies nine hole strokeplay. Sue Gunning came second with a nett 39 just ahead of vice-captain Alaine Britton also on nett 39. Thanks to all of the ladies who stayed to see a presentation from Nikki from Swing out Sister. SOS ladies clothing has been a good seller for us and Nikki gave us a preview of their summer range for next year. |
|
We gained some valuable feedback about the most popular styles and colours to stock and look out for the clothing to be in store from March next year. There's still plenty going on with the ladies before Christmas, a 3 club challenge takes place this week before a nine hole strokeplay on Sunday and next Thursday is a Stableford Waltz followed by Christmas lunch. |
Our favourite five photos of 2019 As we are reaching the end of another year, we thought we would bring you our favourite five photos of 2019 - they may bring back a few memories; in no particular order here they are... |
