Winter League latest The Winter League lived up to it's name on Sunday as we played on white-over frozen greens after temperatures plummeted overnight. The icy bone-hard greens made scoring difficult and golfers had to contend with some peculiar bounces, but conditions were the same for everyone. Despite the unusual nature of the course, it was a familiar duo at the top of the standings - Ian and Julie Daines scored a brilliant 22 points. Ian had a birdie on the fourth and Julie had pars on 3 of the next 4 holes. Despite a double bogey on the last, the husband and wife pair took the honours and they have scored no worse than 21 points in the first four rounds. Dave Johnson and Antony Green moved up the standings with a 21 point score in second place. Dave had a birdie on 6 but Ant finished in style by holing a monster putt on the last for a 4 point birdie, his ball finding the bottom of the hole after ricocheting off a few lumps of ice on the way - but we're sure that there was plenty of skill involved too! Another husband and wife combination finished in third place with Alaine and Dave Britton scoring 20 points.
It's not quite as one-sided as Liverpool running away with the Premier League yet but the Daines' increased their lead at the top, the Winter League standings now look like this: 1st - Ian & Julie Daines - 88 points 2nd - Paul & Kieran Underwood - 84 points 3rd - Paddy Scanlan & Chris Bird - 82 points 4th - Antony Green & Dave Johnson - 78 points 5th - Gary Cashmore & Javier Lang - 77 points 6th - Gareth Eaton & Liam Tyrer - 71 points 7th - Tim Barnes & Jack Brownrigg - 70 points 8th - Richard Hoey & Brian Wager - 70 points
This Saturday we play the December Medal which is a Stableford starting at 11am.
