Winter League review We have now played three rounds of the Winter League and things are starting to take shape. Just a reminder that the format is eight rounds of 9 hole Stablefords with the best 5 scores to count on a league table. After the completion of the eight rounds, we cut to the top 8 pairs who then play matchplay knockout matches until we have a winning pair!
Gareth Eaton has won the Winter League twice with different partners...but strangely not with current partner Liam Tyrer. They will be out to put this right over the Winter and they moved into contention on Sunday with a 23 point round-winning score, they dovetailed well and Liam contributed a vital birdie three on the last hole. Beaten finalists last Winter - Paddy Scanlan and Chris Bird showed that they are a pair to be reckoned with as they also scored 23 points - the highlight of their round was a birdie on the sixth hole from Paddy. A new pairing in Alex Wass and James Pearson (who you will normally see working behind the bar in the clubhouse) laid down a marker with a 22 point score in third place. So after the three rounds the all-important top 8 places look like this: 1. Ian Daines & Julie Daines - 66 points 2. Paul Underwood & Kieran Underwood - 66 points 3. Gary Cashmore & Javier Lang - 64 points 4. Paddy Scanlan & Chris Bird - 64 points 5. Gareth Eaton & Liam Tyrer - 58 points 6. Antony Green & Dave Johnson - 57 points 7. Mike Barrow & Paul Rotherham - 57 points 8. Alan Tayler & Alan Royle - 57 points This Saturday we play the November Bogey with an 11am start and the next round of the Winter League takes place on Sunday, 1 December also at 11am.

Midweek Stableford news Last Wednesday saw our November Midweek Stableford take place and, thanks to the hard work of Head Greenkeeper Dan and his new Assistant Tom, the full course was open and in great condition despite some heavy downpours in the preceding days. Showing how good the course played, there were some very strong scores returned and Martin Major had his best round of the year with a 41 point round to take the honours. Martin had one of those rounds where he didn't get into 'major' trouble (excuse the pun again!) and he kept the dreaded double bogeys off his scorecard, the back nine was especially good as he shot a one over par gross 36 for 21 points. Ian Daines was playing with Martin and they had a tug of war battle for first place all the way round. Ian went out with 21 points but a bogey-bogey finish saw him end on 40 points to just miss out on top spot. Lady Captain Chris Paxton continued her good from with a third place finish on 34 points. Well done to Julie Daines who scored a very lucrative two on the 5th hole. As it was a triple rollover and she was the only two-scorer she has bagged a nice amount of credit to spend in the shop! A good point to note was that half the field of entrants were female golfers which shows what a good competitive balance of the sexes we have here at Hartford and nearly 20% of the overall 336 members that we have are female players. |

Ladies round-up The highlight of the ladies week was a Children in Need fundraiser which included a team 9 hole Texas Scramble. Thanks to the efforts of Lady Captain Chris and the 20 other lady members who participated the fantastic amount of £250 was raised for Children in Need - a brilliant effort to be very proud of ladies! In the competition the winning team were Jill Bebbington, Sandra Peake and Ena Rudman with a score of nett 33.8, and appropriately for the upcoming winter months they each won a pink Hartford bobble hat.

On Saturday the ladies played a 9 hole weekend Stableford. The winner, with 17 points, was Julie Daines who is clearly getting used to her new PING clubs now and they are quickly paying for themselves in shop vouchers, with this victory added to her two in the Midweek Stableford! Runner up was Sharon Dunning on 16 points.

Don't forget your winnings... Talking of credit in the shop...there are many members with credit on their accounts from competition winnings and two's. Don't forget to check your account balance when you're next in as you may be pleasantly surprised and you may want to spend your credit that is just sat there waiting to be used!
