Hartford Masters review The ‘best of the best’ lined up on Saturday to compete in the Hartford Masters and to battle for the right to wear our famous Hartford Green Jacket. The defending champion was Kieran Underwood and he put up a great defence of his title with a two birdie nett 67 that gave him the early clubhouse lead. Another youngster in 5 handicapper Joel Cann was hot on Kieran’s heels and he fired three birdies in his round but a bogey on 17 meant that he was also on nett 67 and just behind Kieran after a countback. Just when it looked like Kieran may win the Masters for an amazing fourth occasion, Ben Barrow came in to spoil his party and complete a remarkable top three from the youngest players in the field. Ben chose the perfect time to have his best round ever at Hartford as he scored a 71 gross for a nett 62 to become this year's Masters Champion. Ben even started his round with a lost ball and double bogey 7 on the first hole but then played the next 17 holes in level par with a round that contained four birdies – including three in the space of four holes.

Prize Presentation - this Saturday! Another fantastic season is coming to a close and on Saturday we play our traditional summer curtain raiser - The President’s Trophy. We finish with a board competition and also the Order of Merit will be coming to a conclusion. It will be interesting to see if Ian Daines can catch the season long leader Pete Kinsey who is out injured. Ian has to finish in the top eight to win the Order of Merit title for the second year in a row. In the eclectic, Kieran Underwood leads the gross standings and Sue Gunning is holding on to a one shot lead over Justin Hyam in the nett. It will also be intriguing to see who wins most improved player of the year. Check out the latest standings here. At the conclusion of the competition, we will know all the season’s prize winners (apart from the Pairs knockout) and we will be presenting all trophies as well as providing some light bites to eat. It would be good if as many members as possible can come along to celebrate all the winners and the conclusion of a great season. Follow the link below for more information. A total of 86 members have now played in at least one weekend competition this summer which is the biggest number we’ve ever had! |
