Midweek Medal review... Rick Smethurst is returning to the game after a long layoff, and he having previously been a single figure handicapper, he showed signs of this kind of form last Wednesday with a fine round of nett 64 playing off an 11 handicap. It was a round that probably could have been even better - the front nine contained two birdies and just three bogeys so Rick was only one over par gross. He made a few more bogeys on the back nine but another brilliant birdie on the difficult twelfth hole limited the damage. With lots of shots left in hand and even though Rick finished bogey-bogey, he still returned a nett 64 and on this form it's only a matter of time until Rick hits a single figure handicap again.
Peter Kinsey continued his good form with a second place finish with nett 66 and Gemma Davies knocked another shot off her handicap in also scoring nett 66 in third place, she will rue a costly 7 on the seventeenth. Remember the deadline for the preliminary round singles knockout matches to be played is this Sunday, the draw can be viewed by clicking here.

Sunningdale Pairs Round up Our Sunningdale Pairs event is always a fun, but a slightly complicated format involving a variation on greensomes. Considering the tricky nature of playing alternate shots, the scoring was impressive with one score in particular catching the eye. Teamwork certainly made the dream work for youngsters Joel Cann and Ben Barrow and they adapted to the format perfectly as they always made sure they had a good tee-shot in play (except on the 17th maybe!). The result was plenty of birdies and not many dropped shots, they got off to a perfect start with a birdie-birdie opening salvo and a further birdie arrived on the eighth hole. A gross outward score of 34 yielded 23 points and the back nine continued in much the same vein with more birdies on holes 12, 15 and 16, the pair were stood on the 17th tee at 4 under par gross. Disaster struck as it usually does at some point at Hartford and they somehow made a triple bogey 7, they steadied the ship with a par to finish and a great score of 46 points which incredibly could have been even better! Antony Green and Dave Johnson would have been quite happy with their 40 point score but it seemed pretty average compared to Joel and Ben's round as they were a distant 6 points behind in second place. This weekend there is plenty of golf to go at again as we play a nine hole Stableford on Sunday and then there is a Bank Holiday Stableford on Monday starting at 12:04pm.

The Mid-Cheshire Junior League It seems to be every week now that our young golfers are stealing the newsletter headlines and Joel and Ben are also part of our junior team that are putting in a great performance in their first season in the Mid-Cheshire Junior League. Last Sunday was round four and played here at Hartford, our team became the first to really make the most of local course knowledge with the best team score in the league this season. Kieran Underwood scored 38 points, Javier Lang had 36 and Ben Barrow also had 36 for a 110 point total to win by 4 points on the day from Delamere Forest. More importantly they turned a 2 point deficit on league leaders Astbury to a 5 point lead. You can view the latest league standings here. |

We will keep you updated on how they get on in their final match being played on the 13th July to see whether they can make it to the semi final stage at the first attempt. It shows the depth of young talented golfers we have that there are others waiting in the wings to push for a place in the team of five. The future certainly looks bright, in the last match we had 5 of the 6 lowest handicappers. In other weekend junior competitions the results were as follows: 7 iron and putter challenge 1st - Harry Mitchell = 22 points 2nd - William Wallace-Hedges = 17 points 3rd - Isabelle Bennett = 14 points 18 hole Stableford 1st - Oliver Jackson = 41 points 2nd - William Wallace-Hedges = 36 points 3rd - Max Beech = 22 points Check out Adam Powell's dates for summer day camps on the poster below, a fun day of golf in a relaxed environment including on course tuition and lunch. Sign up details are on the poster.

Here's what it looks like to score two holes in one in less than 3 weeks, double congratulations Julie!!

[* END *] [* END *] Most overlooked club in the bag? |
Thankfully, the penny has dropped when it comes to the importance of getting custom fitted for a new driver or set of irons. Unfortunately, we still see the vast majority of golfers overlook this process when it comes to their fairway woods, but why? |
| How often do you use yours? |
|
“I wouldn’t use it often enough” “It's too expensive” “It's not necessary” Yeah, I guess if you’re not concerned with shooting lower scores and maximising your potential then a custom fitted fairway wood isn’t that important. However, if improving your game is something you want to achieve, then having a full set of custom fitted clubs is vital, especially when it comes to gapping between your driver and irons.

PING G410 fairway woods One option that we'll certainly get you to try is this beauty from PING. A combination of its tungsten weight, forged face and low centre of gravity produce a fairway wood that is easy to launch and that flies miles, too.
So, let’s get you booked in for a custom fitting with a member of the team and harness your potential with the most overlooked club in the bag. |
