Team Championship Trophy Our annual Team Championship match pits the four sections of the Golf Club against each other, the men take on the ladies and the seniors and the juniors over a 9 hole Stableford format. It's a fun competition but very keenly contested as the winning section gain the bragging rights for the next year! On Saturday we had 6 members playing from each section and the team that came out on top were the seniors, the men finished in second, the ladies came third and the young junior team (which featured some of the lowest handicap players) propped up the leader board. So the seniors have shown that there is no substitute for experience and good golf is possible no matter what your age!

The best score on the day was 20 points from Gemma Davies, a great score considering the windy conditions, she pipped Dave Johnson (who played for the men but looks like a senior haha) also on 20 points after a countback. This Saturday we play the March Bogey which is the last competition of the winter fixtures, we are nearly into the summer fixtures with the Captain's drive-in starting the season on Saturday 6th April.

Winter League Update Paul and Kieran Underwood were already through to the Winter League final but we know now that they will play Paddy Scanlan and Chris Bird. |
Paddy and Chris beat Eddy Williams and Paul Cunningham by 2 and 1 in a windy semi-final match on Saturday played off the white tees. The first two holes were halved before Chris used his only shot on the third hole to score a winning par, the fourth hole was birdied by Paddy and the fifth hole went their way too. Eddy and Paul battled from 3 down to win the 8th and when Paul made a par on the eleventh hole, they were back to just 1 down. The vital moment of the match was on the 15th hole when Paul missed a short birdie putt that would have got them back to all square, Chris was then the only player to find the sixteenth green with his tee-shot and a solid par got them back to dormie two. The writing was on the wall and the 17th was halved in pars so the match was over as Paddy and Chris secured their hard fought final place. The final is provisionally booked in to take place on Saturday 23rd March and it should be a titanic battle.

Clothing spotlight… In the last few weeks the weather has certainly been unsettled and sometimes it's seemed like we've had four seasons in one day, when conditions are so changeable it's hard to have all the right clothing in your bag...wouldn't it be great if you had a jacket that would be suitable for almost every round of golf you play? Galvin Green have always been at the forefront of technical innovation and we believe that their new Lincoln Interface jacket is one of their best designs yet as it is something we've not seen before in being the perfect 'hybrid jacket' and suitable for 95 rounds out of 100. This jacket ticks so many boxes and I've been wearing it every day - pretty much no matter what the weather, it's a half zip jacket that is totally windproof for when it's breezy but highly breathable for when the sun comes out, it's also highly water resistant so if it's starts to rain you don't have to rush to change into your waterproof jacket.
|
It's lightweight so fits easily into your bag, and the soft shell stretch fabric is so easy and quiet to swing in that you can play golf in the jacket and pretty much forget you have even got it on, it really is a game changer! When you consider a Gore-Tex waterproof or a wind-stopper jacket would cost hundreds, the Interface jacket is also extremely good value at £159 as it is so versatile. The Lincoln jacket is also stylish in design and fits very well with elasticated cuffs and drawstring bottom, the men's jacket comes in five different colours including this eye-catching gold and a blue lagoon colourway that I've been wearing. The ladies version is called the Lily and comes in two different colours - it does exactly the same as the men's jacket - the perfect item for all year round golf. If you buy just one item for your golfing wardrobe this year it should be one of these jackets!

Photo of the week... We don't often mention member’s birthdays as we have over 350 of them! However we've made a special exemption for Phil Evans as his birthday was a special one at 70 years of age but mainly due to the brilliant golf themed birthday cake his family organised for him which we had to share with you. Happy birthday Phil and glad you had a good weekend. Not quite enough room on there for the 70 candles though!

Motocaddy has always been at the forefront of trolley innovation, with the world's first GPS electric trolley amongst their ranks. Well, this year they’ve made some significant upgrades to the immensly popular S1 model, which we think you're going to love. |
| New Motocaddy S1 electric trolley (2019) |
|
We don't like using the term 'entry level' to describe the new S1 as it offers so much more than what this suggests. At first glance, you'll take a liking to its modernised styling and graphics, which will really help make it stand out from other trolleys on the market. Then you get to its technology: new and improved sunlight-friendly LCD display, nine speed settings, advanced battery meter so you needn't worry about it running out mid-round without knowing, and a super-lightweight Lithium battery to name but a few. The new S1 for 2019 is as good as it gets at this price point, so pop in-store to take a look and get one in your hands. |
