January Medal We played our first competition of the year on Saturday and everyone was glad to get back to competitive golf as shown by a great turn out, what was really good to see was that there were 3 new members playing in their first competitions - and they all played pretty well! |
The winner was in-form Jay Moran who recently won a Midweek Stableford, so he has now claimed a weekend competition victory too for the collection, sure it will be the first of many. Newly engaged at Christmas, Jay certainly wasn't tying himself in knots on the golf course with a 42 point total coming courtesy of 5 pars and plenty of bogeys, which is pretty good off a 21 handicap! Jay's golf is moving in the right direction and his handicap has fallen to 20, so he's had the perfect start to the New Year. There was a familiar name in second place too, the man of the winter, Andie Fraser, continues to play well with a second place finish on 40 points - including birdies on the 1st and 13th holes. Youngster Joel Cann also scored 40 points in third place with birdies on the 6th and 17th holes. |
|
We're back into the swing of things now with the Winter League continuing on Saturday, it's an 11am start and round number 7 of 8 so the top qualifying positions are really starting to take shape. |

Hot new arrivals! Last week we were telling you about some of the hottest new golf club releases for the year, well we don't waste much time here and we are now one of the first venues in the country to have the new 2019 Callaway and TaylorMade ranges now in stock in our custom fitting studio. Rather than bore you with lots of technology talk again, here are three very simple reasons why you should try the new Callaway and TaylorMade drivers: TaylorMade M5 and M6 drivers: 1. EVERY driver face produced is tested to be right on the legal limit - speed injected for never been seen before ball speed. 2. Features Twist Face technology which helped all top TaylorMade tour players to improve their driving accuracy by as much as 10%. 3. Loft and CG weight adjustability allows nearly 1700 combinations to give you the best fit yet.
Callaway Epic Flash drivers: 1. AI computer generated design of the driver face maximises ball speed, would take a human 34 years to replicate. 2. New carbon technology on the crown, allows a tighter, stronger weave for maximum forgiveness. 3. Jailbreak technology - only seen in Callaway clubs, enlarges the sweet spot and in testing tour players have seen ball speed gains by as much as 5mph.
Have a look at this video to see the technology in action. |
With the fantastic new Titleist TS drivers also selling well and the PING G400 driver being as reliable as ever, 2019 really will be the year of the driver with the big four manufacturers all offering clubs with new technology that has never been seen before. But don't take our word for it - let us show you by hitting the new clubs that we can fit for you to maximise both your driver accuracy and distance and we will prove that these new drivers are the best yet! Your reaction when you hit these new clubs could be just like these tour players - watch here to see their first impressions.
Contact us here to book your fitting session now. It's not just the drivers that are new on the market, there are also fairway woods, hybrids and new iron ranges that you can try and we can fit for - next week look out for our 2019 irons preview.

January sale continues... A good indicator of how well our January sale is going is that our clothes Sale rail was looking pretty empty so rather than end the Sale early we have taken more full priced stock and put it on our reduced rail. Top brands such as Under Armour, adidas and FootJoy have been added with shirts now priced as little as £19.99. Not only that but we have 30% discounts across the board on premium brands like Galvin Green, Ted Baker and Peak Performance. So a Ted Baker shirt that you'll also see on the high street will cost you less than £60. It's not just on clothing that you can save money, our TaylorMade wedges are reduced by £40 down to £69 and Titleist ProV1 balls are just £36.99 or 2 dozen for £70.

Seniors section The seniors played the fourth round of their Winter League last Tuesday, Chris Lee had a round of two halves - he started off unspectacularly with just 4 points after three holes. But then out of nowhere he hit overdrive with a wonderful run of birdie, par, par, birdie, par to pick up 16 points in 5 holes, a bogey on the last saw him finish on 22 points. Roy Strefford didn't score on the first hole but recovered well to score 20 points in second place, and Alan Tayler reeled off 5 pars in a row to start off his round before running out of steam a little to also finish on 20 points in third place. After four rounds Bob Galley has a commanding five point lead over nearest challenger John Langton in the Winter League, but with 2 rounds to go things could still change dramatically.

Ladies news In a busy week for competitions the ladies also played a nine hole Stableford, it was a cold windy morning and nobody beat their handicaps on this occasion. Chris Paxton claimed her second victory of the winter with a very respectable 16 point total, in second place was Elspeth Forbes also on 16 points. Sandra Peake completed the top three with 15 points. Special mention also to Jill Bebbington who scored a brilliant birdie 2 on the second hole, this gave her a nett score of zero on the hole and an amazing 5 points!

Video of the week The new changes to the rules of golf are taking some getting used to, it still seems a bit strange being allowed to putt on the green whilst the flagstick remains in the hole. There has been much debate over whether you have a better chance of putts dropping if the flag is left in. Have a look at this interesting video from Golf Monthly in which they try their best to settle the debate. So as with most things in golf there isn't really a definitive right answer and it is probably going to come down to personal preference if you leave the flag in or not, sometimes it could help your ball drop but some people find it quite distracting and it can make the hole appear smaller. Our advice is to try both in practice and find out which works best for you.
Upcoming events
• Winter League Round 7 - Saturday 19th January 11am • Daily Mail Foursomes Qualifier - Sunday 20th January 11am • Seniors 9 hole Stableford - Tuesday 23rd January 9:16am • Ladies 9 hole Stableford - Thursday 24th January 9:24am • Winter League Round 8 - Sunday 27th January 11am

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. |
There’s no such thing as bad weather for golf – just a poor choice of clothing. You might have got away with the old ‘raincheck’ excuse a few years ago, but golf clothing has come a long way since then. All you need to do is make sure you’re properly layered up with golf-specific garments and you’re good to go. |
