Competition news

December Medal

We played the last medal of the year on Saturday and what a way to finish the year as it was probably the best scoring competition we've ever had! There have been occasions where players have had the round of their lives but as far as we know there has never been a 49 and a 48 point score returned in the same event like there was on Saturday.

15 year old Javier Lang had a storming round, the 11 handicapper began his round with a birdie and seven pars in his first 8 holes and even with a double bogey on the 9th he had 23 points. However he hit over drive on the back nine - Javier fired four birdies including two 2's and even though he finished with two bogeys he must have thought his score of level par gross and 48 points would be more than good enough to win....particularly as the next best scores in the clubhouse were 42 points from Ian Daines and Liam Tyrer.

Javier was to be foiled though by the man of the moment - Andie Fraser! Andie has hit top form again this winter and after a few 'barren years' he is back to his best. In the summer he was playing off 20 but after his latest storming round he is now off a more realistic 13 handicap. He got there by scoring an amazing 49 points on Saturday, in a total score of 4 over par gross, Andie had three birdies including a crucial one on the last when his approach shot actually hit the pin! Andie has now won two Winter Medals and sits on top of the Order of Merit and Eclectic, so he really is the man to beat this winter.

New member Chris Buck eventually finished third with 43 points and a score of 38 points was only good enough for 13th place, it really has been a winter of unprecedented scoring so far!

Dates for your diary…

This Saturday we play round five of the Winter League, it has an 11am start and the sheet is nearly full again, then next Wednesday we play the last Midweek Stableford of 2018.

Don't forget our summer season presentation afternoon is coming up soon on Sunday 16th December after round six of the Winter League, there is a list of all the prize winners on the notice board and the clubhouse honours boards have now been updated – all members and guests, especially prize winners, are encouraged to attend.

Seniors section

It was a wet Seniors 18 hole Stableford on Tuesday, the back nine was particularly wet and all 22 players got a good soaking but they all finished their rounds bar one - Brian Whitworth getting named and shamed!

The best round came from Chris Coates with 42 points but even this was a round of two halves, Chris had a phenomenal front nine of 25 points courtesy of three pars to start and then two 2s. As Chris entered the back nine the rain was at it’s worst and despite the conditions, Chris battled on and he scored 17 points on the back nine to ensure a winning total.

Graham Bower came runner-up for the second month in a row and again the weather held him up on the back nine as he scored 22 and then 16 points. John Sykes bucked the trend as he had a better second nine, he scored 37 points with 19 points coming in.

Well done to Captain Paul Frost who, like Chris, scored two 2s on the 7 and 14th holes.

Fitting news

Titleist Fitting Day

We have another fitting day coming up next Tuesday with Titleist from 3-8pm. On the day, club fitting expert Frazer Jones, will be on hand to carry out 8 custom fitting sessions. There has been a lot of buzz in particular about the new Titleist TS drivers, we have seen instant improvements in distance and dispersion when golfers have been fitted for the new TS driver and just the other week Graham picked up an amazing 35 yards extra on his drives – this could be you too!

Our two pros, Adam and Adrian, have already made the switch to the new driver and in October/November it was the best-selling model of driver in the UK. The simple key to extra distance and the success of this driver is increased ball speed – have a look at this video to see how the TS is designed to do this. Click here to watch.

Normally a club fitting session would cost £25 but all these sessions with Frazer are FREE to book and we now only have 3 slots left available at: 3:45pm, 5:15 and 6pm. If you would like to book one of these last three slots then please contact us here.

The weather has turned a bit wetter and cooler this week, but remember that no matter how bad the conditions our driving range is always playable. We have installed lots of brand new hitting mats and we have 12 power tees, now is the ideal to work on your game ready for next season as John is doing here as the sun burns through the morning mist.
