November Bogey Review

It was a cold but dry day for the November Bogey on Saturday and again there were some good scores returned. 13 handicapper Chris Newton doesn't play in too many competitions but he showed some great form at the weekend, although he didn't score any birdies, he made a total of twelve pars which are always good to get in a bogey competition. Chris' back nine was especially strong as he was just two over par gross (five up) and he finished on a total winning score of 6 up.

Paul Rotherham also scored 6 up but he was only 2 up on the back nine so Chris pipped him to top spot. In third place was the inform Andie Fraser who was 5 up including a birdie on the 10th hole. A special mention also to Captain Dave Shering who had a very rare eagle on the par four 18th hole after holing his approach shot, what a shame for Dave that this competition isn't part of the Winter Eclectic!!

Remember that this Saturday for the December Medal, every player’s tee-time has been moved forward by approximately an hour, so for example if your original tee-time was 11:08am it is now 10:12am. We have done this is as the entry sheet is full and we want everyone to get round before it goes dark. Have a look at the photo of the tee-sheet to check your tee-time.

The presentation afternoon for the summer competitions will take place after the Winter League on Sunday 16th December, this will be an occasion to celebrate and present all the competition winners so if you have won a prize please try your best to attend, all members and their guests are welcome to come along.

Seniors Section

The seniors played a nine hole Stableford last Tuesday, there was another bumper turnout of 40 players but only three players beat their handicaps on a windy day when the course bared it's teeth. Alan Phillips has been working on his game in the last few months with the help of some lessons from Adam Powell and they are clearly paying off as he played under his handicap for the second competition in a row and claimed his first victory of the year with a 20 point score that included two pars.

Jack Thomson was the seniors’ bridesmaid again as he had his second runners-up spot in a row, this time he scored 19 points but his handicap has dropped a shot to 18. Bob Galley is a newish member but he clearly knows his way round the course as he came third with 19 points, in his first three senior’s competitions he has finished 3rd, 1st and 3rd so he is clearly a player to look out for!

There is some very sad news to report as popular seniors member Bob Griffiths regretfully passed away last week after a short period of illness. Bob was aged 66 and he had been a member since 2015 - he was a good golfer, winning the seniors Claret Jug and Summer League in 2017 and he is survived by his loving wife Lynn and daughter Kelly. The funeral is on Wednesday 5th December at St. Johns Church, Sandiway at 11:30am.

Ladies Winter Foursomes

The latest ladies Winter Foursomes competition lived up to it's name as it was played on a cold Thursday morning.

The winning pair were Lady Captain Sue Gunning and Bev Rickett who linked up well in a solid winning score of nett 76.0, they were well clear of Joyce Graham and Sandra Peake with 83.0 and third place went to Margaret Cherry and Chris Paxton on 83.5.

The ladies play a nine hole Stableford next Thursday 6th December starting at 9:24am.

Fitting news

Titleist experts visiting us again....

We have a couple more dates for your diary as we host not only another Titleist club fitting day but also a golf ball education afternoon, here is why we think that everyone should attend....

Titleist golf ball education talk with ball specialist Joe Smith on Monday 3rd December from 12pm in the clubhouse, you could write on a stamp what Joe doesn't know about golf balls and he has fitted some of the leading players on the European Tour. The Titleist range of golf balls is broad for a reason as every golfer is different, Joe will explain why the balls are designed the way they are and recommend which ball may be the best for you to play so simply call into the clubhouse and have a chat with him.
Titleist Club Fitting event on Tuesday 11th December from 3-8pm, on the day club expert Frazer Jones will be on hand to offer free custom fitting sessions on any of the current Titleist range including the fantastic new TS drivers which are currently the number one selling driver model in the UK. Divide and conquer

Sometimes in golf, it's the little things which really grind your gears.
