3 Club Challenge Every year we are amazed by how good the scoring is in our 3 Club Challenge and this year must have been a record-breaker! Five players scored more than 36 points and there were three scores in the 40's. Conditions were perfect for golf as the sun shone, the greens were receptive and true but nevertheless - considering every player only used two clubs plus a putter the scores were absolutely amazing! The winner was Paul Rotherham with 44 points which is the best 3 club score we can ever remember. Using a hybrid and 8 iron, Paul achieved his first victory at Hartford with a round that contained 5 pars......which is pretty good when you play off a 26 handicap. Paul's two nines were 23 out and 21 back and he now has a nice new handicap of 24, we're not sure if rumours are true that Paul will stick with just 3 clubs in his bag for the November Medal coming up soon!! Martin Major played his best front nine in a long time with an outward half of 24 points, using a hybrid and 9 iron, he scored 8 pars and 1 birdie in a flawless start to his round. The back nine wasn't quite as good for Martin but he still only dropped 4 shots and his 42 point total would normally have been good enough to be the winning score. Liam Tyrer was third with 41 points and as usual Liam had some ups and downs in his round, three birdies were fired in, including a brilliant one on the 9th. Big hitting Liam used just a 7 iron and gap wedge and he had a great back nine of 24 points in which he was just one over par gross. Click here to see a full list of the scores. This Sunday we play the second round of the Winter League starting at 11am, we can expect some more fireworks in that! |

Summer Season prize-giving The date has been set for our Summer Season Prize Presentation on Sunday 16th December in the afternoon after the Winter League - we will present all summer prizes then so look out for a list of winners on the notice board soon. It would be great to see as many members as possible coming along and even if you haven't won something please come along to cheer everyone along and celebrate another great summer season. The club computer is now back up to date with the season's results thanks to the hours of work put in by Secretary Julie Daines - it really was a massive, seemingly endless job! And also all member's accounts have now been credited with any summer prizes and twos credits so you can get spending now if you won anything over the summer and your account should be that bit healthier! If you're not sure - ask in the shop and we'll check your account for you. We're also organising a Rules Quiz night which will take place on Friday 23rd November at around 7:30pm, quizmaster will be Mr. Steady himself Ian Daines, the timing is perfect as there are a number of rules changes coming in next year and this will be your chance to learn some of the new rules as well as brush up on current ones in a fun and sociable environment, with a little bit of friendly competition thrown in!

Seniors & Ladies join forces..... The annual seniors and ladies pairs event took place last week, the format involves a senior being paired with a lady and they combine their two 9 hole stableford scores. There was a bumper turnout with 22 pairs vying to take the honours. The best score came from 14 handicapper Jim Fergie and 33 handicapper Bev Rickett, they combined to score 35 points in total. Here they are with seniors Captain Paul Frost and Lady Captain Sue Gunning. It was great to see such good support for this event from the members and there is always such a great camaraderie between the two sections.

Ladies team news There was so much going on last week it almost slipped under the radar that 8 of our ladies visited our sister club Pryors Hayes last week and we beat our local rivals 2.5-1.5, a great win away from home for our ladies and we'll definitely enjoy the bragging rights for a while. The ladies team have been busy as they also entertained Sandbach ladies in another 8 player per team match on Tuesday morning, the course was windy but in great condition and the score was another 2.5-1.5 win for our ladies who are on a roll! Well done to Sarah Dee and Jeannann Clare who won the ladies Autumn Pairs Trophy final last week beating Kath Hough and Jill Bebbington in the final by a score of 3 and 1.

Winter spotlight.... This weekend temperatures are set to drop as we get hit by our first 'Arctic Blast' of the winter, we keep reminding you but winter is unfortunately on the way and now is the time that you need to get ready for golf in colder and wetter weather, here are some of our latest winter arrivals...… |
Check out the new stylish snoods and scarves from Under Armour, Galvin Green, Titleist and adidas. They are multi-use as well as being smart they will keep you protected from that Arctic wind! Bobble hats are the fashion must have at the moment, keep one in your golf bag for when temperatures drop - it's a well known fact that body heat escapes quickly through your head. Base layers are a winter golf essential, it's amazing how well they work - wear one underneath a t-shirt or jumper and most of your body heat will be retained by the compression layer, the best are base layers are definitely from Under Armour and Galvin Green. A thermal vest or gilet will protect you from the elements but will also allow your arms to swing freely and keep you comfortable, we have the latest ones from Under Armour, FootJoy, adidas, Peak Performance and Galvin Green. Winter mittens are another essential, your hands are your only contact point with your golf club and you simply can't play your best if your hands are freezing and you have no feeling in them, stick a handwarmer inside them and enjoy the feeling of warmth!

There is also a sale on mens and ladies shoes at the moment and as well as mens clothing we have some nice new winter ladies and kids collections in from Galvin Green, Under Armour and Daily Sports, come and have a look.... |
Photo of the week We were lucky enough to get on our hands on some prototype golf balls from Titleist, they are the new version of the popular ProV1 series that won't be released onto the market until February 2019, even Titleist tour players aren't using these balls yet so we felt very honoured. Our professionals Adam Powell and Adrian Hill have been testing the new balls and compared them to this year’s version out on the course, so far we can report that the number one ball in golf will be getting even better next year! A new urethane cover allows the ball to spin more around the greens but it actually goes further off the tee, which is the perfect combination for any golfer, the 2019 ProV1 will also be available in a yellow version for the first time ever which will be music to the ears of many golfers. If you want to have a look at one of the new golf balls call into the shop and we'll show you one of the very rare prototypes - we haven't lost any of them yet!!
