President’s Day review Thank you to Alan Royle for hosting a great President’s Day on Saturday, there was almost a full entry of players vying to win the President’s Trophy which is our traditional curtain call to the summer season and the greens were in fantastic condition after a double hand cut in the morning. The course was playing much longer after plenty of rain in the days before and the winning score was 38 points from Paddy Scanlan. Paddy has been lightly golfed this season but the rest doesn’t seem to have done him much harm as he achieved his first victory of the season and his second board competition honour at Hartford as he played two solid nines of 19 points. The second nine was crucial as James Eaton also scored 38 points but missed out on first place as he went out in 21 and back with 17 points. Kieran Underwood continued his good run of form with 37 points in third place. In the Order of Merit it was Ian Daines that held on to his lead, as he has done all season! His closest pursuer, Steve Hulse, needed a top two finish but he couldn’t manage that so Ian prevailed and is a deserving winner after a very steady season in which he had a total of 7 top ten finishes. It was nice to see President Alan Royle win nearest the pin on the 7th hole and the nearest the pin in two on the 3rd hole was won by Joel Cann. In the County Mixed Foursomes on Sunday the winning pair were Justin Hyam and Christine Paxton. That’s virtually it now for the summer season and the next competition is the October Medal on Saturday 6th October at 11am.
