April Medal Normally by the time we play the April Medal, we are well into spring and the weather is pretty warm and sunny. Unfortunately that's definitely not been the case this year! As has been the norm of late, the rain was pouring on Saturday morning and it's a great testament to the hard work of the greenkeeping team that the course remained open and fit for play when many other courses in the area were shut. Conditions were understandably difficult as the course is playing it's full length off the back tees at the moment and only 14 year old Ben Barrow managed to beat his handicap with a brilliant nett 68, this was made all the better by the fact that Ben got off to a tricky start with an unfortunate 8 on the first hole. Ben dug in however and showed steely resolve to soon get his round back on track with a birdie on the fourth hole and another birdie came on the fifteenth as he played the last 6 holes in just one over par to score a nett 68 bringing his handicap down to 11. Martin Major took runners up honours three shots back with a nett 71, Martin's round got off to a very solid start being one over after 6 and he had a good finish with a birdie and 2 pars in his last four however he had a bad run from the 7th to the 14th holes where he dropped most of his shots. Ian Daines also finished on nett 71 and he also had a birdie on the sixth hole. This week we play a Spring Stableford on Saturday from 12pm and don't forget that the entry sheets are up for the singles and pairs knockout trophies, make sure you enter before the draw takes place on 28th April.
