Scratch Trophy Review
The Scratch Trophy is one of the competitions that gives low handicappers the best chance to get their name on the honours boards and conditions were ideal on Saturday as the sun was shining although there were a few tricky pin positions to challenge our golfers as the temperature soared in the afternoon.
Scratch golfer Tom Duncalf (below) was the lowest handicapper playing but he had never previously won the Scratch Trophy, he put this right on Saturday with a steady two over par round of 71 including birdies on the 1st and 7th holes. Gareth Eaton with a 74 was Tom's closest challenger, Gareth had birdies on the 1st and 12th holes and an excellent eagle on the 15th hole brought him right into contention to challenge for the best gross score and a par on the last hole would have given him the same score as Tom - however the heat must have got to Gareth and a costly triple bogey meant that he finished runner up in both the nett and the gross categories. Next in the gross section was Kieran Underwood with a 75.
In the nett category the winner was Gary Cashmore who returned a fine nett 66, Gary got off to a shaky start but he dropped just 4 shots on the back nine and his score was good enough to see off Gareth Eaton (Nett 67) in second place and Chris Bird also on nett 67 in third place, Chris also had an agonising triple bogey on the 18th despite being in the middle of the fairway with his tee-shot, maybe it was too hot for everyone!
Midweek Medal News
By his standards Paul Underwood has had a quiet season so far but he really got things going last Wednesday as he scored a fine 77 off a 15 handicap to return a nett 62 and take his first victory of the summer.
The highlight of his round was a birdie on the 8th hole and a brilliant run of 5 consecutive pars to finish his round set up his winning score. Alan Tayler finished in second place with a nett 66 and Paul's son Kieran Underwood had two birdies in his nett 70 score.
We have a free weekend this week in terms of competitions so it's a good chance for those of you still involved to play knockout matches.
CES Runs Out Soon
We have seen a good number of you over the last 6 weeks or so for our Complete Equipment Solution and the results speak for themselves, we are seeing golfers pick up distance and accuracy as a result of custom fitting them for new clubs and coupled with the free follow up lesson that we offer they are also improving their technique - definitely a win-win situation!
We recently fitted Duncan Elliott for some new PING clubs and he had this to say:
'I played my first competition with my new driver and irons after a custom fitting session at Hartford and had my best score in 3 years! I only missed two fairways all day with my new PING driver and I was hitting shorter irons into every green which makes the game so much easier and it's given me lots of confidence in my game, I can't wait to get back out on the course again!'
The CES is only running until the end of July so you need to get booked in the next week or so if you want to take advantage of our offer - which is FREE custom fitting on new equipment from top brands PING, TaylorMade, Titleist and Callaway and if you make a purchase you also get a FREE follow up 30 minute lesson, remember it's an offer you won't see on the internet sites or in high street shops and it almost guarantees you better golf, who doesn't want that?! Click here to book your CES session now.
Ladies & Seniors
This Tuesday the Ladies played their annual match against the Seniors section, it's always a fun but highly competitive match amongst the 32 players involved.
The seniors won the first 2 matches narrowly on the last green and all the matches ended up being close affairs but in the end the seniors prevailed by a score of 6-2.
It was sweet revenge for the seniors after last year's defeat to the ladies, here is Lady Captain Sandra passing the shield over to seniors Captain Bob.
