Inaugural Trophy Review
Just like in the professional golfing world we have four majors here at Hartford and these are obviously the most prestigious competitions for a member to win. It's an exclusive club that you join when you win a major at Hartford and we had a new entrant on Saturday as Gareth Eaton battled the tricky breeze and tough pin positions to score a one under par nett 68 and claim his place on the main honours board.
Playing off a handicap of 8 Gareth had a very steady front nine of 6 pars and 3 bogeys but he had a painful 10th hole as he racked up a treble bogey. But he did well to recover after this with back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 along with a par on the difficult 18th proving crucial to his winning score. It was an even more impressive round from Gareth as he's not played much golf recently, but hopefully this victory will re-ignite his interest in competitive golf!
Special mention goes to Christine Paxton who also had a great round and scored a nett 68. Although she had a better back nine it will be Gareth's name that goes on the honours board as the ladies have their own board competitions. Christine's consolation is that she qualifies for the end of season Hartford Masters competition along with Gareth.
Antony Green was playing in the same group as Gareth Eaton and he will rue what might have been as he had costly double bogeys on holes 15 and 16 to finish with nett 69 and in third place. Sue Gunning also contributed to a good showing from the lady golfers by taking fourth place on nett 70.
This Sunday we play the May Medal which starts at 12:04pm.
Ladies Portugal Trip
It was quiet last week as many of our lady members were away golfing in Portugal. They had a great time and plenty of good golf was played as they played rounds at Quinta do Vale, Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima. Kath Hough came a cropper when she managed to lock herself out of her hotel room but we'll let her tell you the full story!
9 Hole Stableford
The ladies played their first Monday evening 9 hole stableford this week and the weather was good for them. Wendy D'Arcy obviously returned from Portugal in good form as she won with 20 points and her handicap has dropped to 35. It's good to see Wendy enjoying her golf and we're sure this won't be her only win of the season! In second place was in-form Christine Paxton on 17 points and Jean Clare also had a good round taking third place, scoring an excellent birdie on the 2nd hole.
This Wednesday the ladies are playing a team match and then on Thursday there is the 18 hole Clare Cup competition. Good luck to all competing!
Seniors Vs Sandbach Golf Club
Our seniors entertained Sandbach Golf Club's seniors last week. Matches against Sandbach are always close affairs and this was no different. Hartford took an early lead but a comeback in the later matches meant that the final score was a very friendly 4-4 draw. It was good to hear so many positive comments from our visitors about the great condition of the golf course at the moment.
Now that the evenings are staying lighter and the golf course is in magnificent condition, there really isn't a better time to join as a member. You don't necessarily need to spend hundreds of pounds. We have a great offer of a trial membership which lasts for 2 months from when you join and costs just £100. For this you can enjoy unlimited golf here and also at our other course, Pryors Hayes, near Chester on any day of the week. All you have to do is book a tee time and you can play as much golf as you like over the 2 months.
The trial membership is a perfect introduction to becoming a full member. We are sure that you will enjoy it and get more than your monies worth. It's the perfect option for somebody who wants to try a membership out.
Also don't forget our Flexible Membership scheme. For £200 you get a card loaded with 200 points and a round of 9 holes costs just 8 points, so you can get up to 25 rounds for your £200. For an extra fee you can also set up a handicap and play in competitions if you fancy becoming a bit more serious about your game.
