It's a warm welcome to our latest newsletter bringing you all the goings on from Cheshire's friendliest Golf Club! What a great weekend it was with the sunny weather and now that the clocks have changed we've all got an extra hour of daylight for our evening games of golf!

Winter League Review 

It's often said that the Winter League Trophy is the hardest competition to win at Hartford, it's the only one that is played from a mixture of the yellow then white tees and it involves over 25 pairs playing both betterball Stableford and then matchplay - so it really does find the cream of the competitive crop! 

The final pitted two very strong pairs in Steve Bond and Steve Nicholson against Captain Paul Underwood and his son Kieran and they played in perfect conditions on Saturday morning. 

The front nine was fairly evenly matched with the two Steve's taking an early lead before a see-saw first eight holes saw them approach the 9th all square following a solid par for Paul to win the hole. 

The 9th to the 11th hole saw three wins in a row with a very consistent Steve Bond winning the 9th and 11th being helped out by 18 handicapper Steve Nicholson including a very impressive gimme birdie on the hard 10th hole which was a hammer blow to the two Underwoods. 

  

A few halves and win either way lead to Nicholson and Bond being three up with three to play but a good par from Kieran and an uncharacteristic 3 putt from Bond on the 16th meant that the pairs headed up the 17th hole but once Steve Nicholson hit a great drive and put his second shot on the green with the benefit of a shot on the other players the writing was on the wall and a nice lagged putt led to a concession of the hole and the the match. 

  

The two Steve's plan on playing more competitions at our other club Pryors Hayes this summer so it was a wonderful sign off for them and a fitting climax to the end of the Winter season - now it's on to the Captain's drive-in on Saturday and the April Medal which marks the start of the Summer season.


 

Masters Sweepstake 

The Masters at Augusta starts next Thursday and what better way than to make it even more interesting by picking a player out of the hat in our Masters sweepstake! 

Tickets are just £3 each and there is £300 worth of prizes - if you pick the winning player you win a £100 shop voucher and there is a £25 voucher for the player with the lowest score each day.

Trade in trade up with our great deals

The ladies held their AGM and winter prize presentation in the evening, here are a few of the winners with Lady Captain Audrey Kettle. 

  

The ladies played a 9 hole strokeplay competition on Thursday and Elspeth Forbes was the leading lady as she scored a nett 31 off her 23 handicap, Elspeth played very consistent golf and scored four pars in her middle six holes of the round. In second place was in form Christine Paxton on nett 35 and Rita Milburn took third on nett 39. 


 

Titleist Thursdays coming to Hartford 

As you will all know we take custom fitting very seriously here at Hartford and we believe that every golfer can benefit from an expert club fitting session, now we are excited to announce that in conjunction with Titleist we are about to take things up a level with the introduction of 'Titleist Thursdays'. 

Titleist Thursdays events will allow golfers to go online and book a free 45-minute appointment with one of the brand's highly-trained Product Specialists at a few select venues up and down the country, we are one of only 2 venues in the North-West area to host 8 Titleist Thursday events over the Summer with the first one being on Thursday 20th April form 1-7pm. 

During Titleist Thursdays, golfers will be invited to undergo complimentary club fittings - utilising a TrackMan Launch Monitor and hit their choice of Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf balls - and demo Titleist's industry-leading range of golf clubs from the wedges and irons through to the metal woods and Scotty Cameron putters. Those of you unable to book online due to high demand are still encouraged to attend the Titleist Thursday events, where you can trial Titleist clubs and spend time with one of our own expert club fitters. Every golfer fitted by Titleist in 2017 will also receive a golf ball recommendation based on their shot characteristics and play preferences.
