March Bogey Review
It was a wet Saturday morning for our March Bogey but that didn't put our brave members off! We still had a good turnout of players and the scoring was decent with the winner being Stuart Fallows who scored 5 up, considering Stuart had been playing enthusiastically in our night golf event on the Friday he had a slightly sore head on Saturday meaning that his winning score was even more impressive! Stuart's handicap has now been reduced to 17 - still a bandit we reckon!
Liam Tyrer also looked like he enjoyed his Friday night a bit too much but this did nothing to deter him from also scoring 5 up and in usual fashion for Liam it was a round punctuated with many highs and lows including three birdies. In third place was Antony Green on 3 up.
A few dates to remind you of - it's our Club AGM this Sunday which starts at around 5pm with a 9 hole competition preceding it at 2pm then it's our Captain's Drive in on Saturday 1st April when Ian Wharton drives into office to start our summer season and we play the April Medal, the entry sheet is already filling up nicely and it should be a great day.
Also please remember that membership renewals are due for 1st April and you can renew now in the shop, only paid up members are eligible to pay in the club competitions.
Old Clubs Amnesty
We're sure that many of you will have noticed that American Golf are running a double trade in offer at the moment on old clubs, the deal does have its drawbacks though hidden in a lot of small print! For example they use an American value site and then convert at a 1.5 rate against the pound, also they insist that you buy new clubs and like for like and they won't take in old wedges or give you store credit. But also more importantly American Golf may have what looks a great trade in offer but they aren't particularly cheap on the retail price of new clubs and will probably charge you the full RRP!
We have a much better alternative for you as we're declaring an old clubs amnesty, bring in any old clubs that you want to get rid of and we'll give you a fair trade in price, you can have the amount in terms of a credit note that can be used in our store against any other items and you can use the credit at your leisure, simple as that!
So bring your old clubs in now and claim your credit note!
Masters Sweepstake
It's now just two weeks until the Masters Tournament starts at Augusta and as usual we have a sweepstake running in the shop, for £3 a ticket you can pick a player out of the hat to win a shop gift voucher, the prizes are as follows:
- Winner £100 voucher
- Runner up £60 voucher
- 3rd place £30 voucher
- Last place after 2 rounds £10 voucher
- Best score each day £25 voucher
There are only a limited number of tickets available to buy so be quick and call in to buy one before they all go!
All four days live coverage of the Masters will be shown in our clubhouse.
The new season is just around the corner and we've had some eye-catching clothing and shoe arrivals in the last few weeks, here are some of the new ranges and colour stories, call in soon to have a proper look.....
Our seniors had an away trip to nearby Portal Golf Club and it was well supported with 32 players travelling over, Seniors Captain Bob Bowen decided to split the golfers up into three age categories from the 'young seniors' through to the 'super seniors'.
The three main prize winners were Andy Goolding, Graham Bower and in form Pete Wildin - we'll let you decide which age group each of them was in!
This Tuesday the seniors played an 18 hole Stableford and the weather stayed fine, the winner was Paul Green with 43 points that included a birdie on the fifteenth hole, Keith Morrish was second on 39 points and Andy Goolding continued his good run with a 38 point score for 3rd place.
Next Tuesday the seniors play a 9 hole Stableford followed by their AGM.
We've had a great response to our Distance Gained Challenge which will be running until the end of April, we can expertly custom fit you for a new driver and monitor how much distance you increase distance by against your old driver, the biggest gainer will then win a FREE matching fairway wood to the driver which could be worth up to £249.
There are no catches it's as simple as that and we'll virtually guarantee you extra distance!
At the moment the leading score is from Dave Cotterrill who picked up a nice extra 20 yards on his drives with the new 2017 TaylorMade M2 driver.
