Watch the US Open this week and try out some of our new beers
The second major of the season - the US Open at Pinehurst number two, begins on Thursday, coverage is on SKY TV and will be shown in our clubhouse over all four days. You can also enjoy some new beers in the bar as we are switching over to a new brewery supplier - the newly installed draught beers that you can sample are Fosters, Heineken, John Smiths and the Italian premium Birra Moretti. Also all the football World Cup games will be shown as long as they don't clash with any major functions in the clubhouse, you can always play golf and watch the football when you finish. There are still a few tickets left for the US Open sweepstake in the shop now with tickets priced at just £1 each and a £100 voucher for the winner as the first prize, there is also a voucher for 2nd place and for the player that finishes last after round 2 - but there are just a few tickets left!
Seniors hit Blackpool
Ken Powell organised a trip for some of our Senior members, involving 2 days golf at Blackpool North Shore Golf Club. He sent me this report:
"We had a great 2 days golf over a good course with fast greens and plenty of water - of which I visited often! There were some great scores with the pinnacle being Peter Dawson's 43 points on day two. It wasn't just all golf - special mention also to the two Alan's (Nevin and Taylor) having a pint at 10am waiting to tee off and looking into Phil Pickering's eyes at 12.30am and realising there was nobody in!
For the romantics (I know there's one or two out there) seeing two swans take off in front of the tee was fantastic and on a personal note I had a great time playing with the 'Chuckle Brothers' (Alan Tayler and Paul Green) and rooming with John Sykes (nice legs shame about the beard) thanks for looking after me!
A big thank you also to Keith Morrish who took the photos including John Sykes doing his best Bruce Forsyth impression, and thank you to everyone that made it happen!"
The Lady Captain's away day organised by Jill Bebbington took place last week at Wirral Ladies Golf Club, by all accounts the ladies enjoyed the course but they were offered a stern test with thick penal rough meaning accuracy off the tee was a priority. The lady who tackled the conditions best was Elspeth Forbes as she emerged as the winner on the day.
The ladies also played their latest West Cheshire Shield match on Monday against Eaton. Weather conditions weren't the best as there was non stop rain in the morning, Elspeth Forbes continued her good form by winning her match, unfortunately the team lost overall 6-1 but this season is all about gaining competitive experience for our ladies team.
