The Challenge is Set...
This week sees the launch of our Hartford Distance Gained Challenge, it was a roaring success last year and we helped over 50 golfers add an average of an extra 12 yards on their drives through a custom fitting session - so we thought we'd repeat the challenge this year. There is a prize for the golfer that increases their distance the most through a fitting session and last year the biggest gain was a massive 45 yards!
We will be running the competition throughout March and April so if you have an old driver that you don't think is performing any more or you've never had a custom fitting before now is the perfect time to get booked in and if you increase your distance the most and buy a new driver we will give you a FREE matching fairway wood which could be worth in the region of £250!
There will be a leaderboard in the shop so we can track all the improvements and we can virtually guarantee you more distance, so what are you waiting for? Contact us here to get your fitting session booked in.
The Biggest Margin...
Anyone that has seen the results from Saturday's February Stableford might be forgiven for thinking there was a misprint on Julie Daines' winning score - we had to look twice! She won with the amazing total of 52 points, to the best of our knowledge this is the best winning score we've ever had in over 15 years of competitions and is equivalent to a nett 54 - 16 under par!
Julie had one of those rounds where everything went right and she went out in 24 points, but the real fireworks took place on the back nine as she scored an amazing 28 points including four pars in a row to finish her round of a lifetime! Unsurprisingly Julie's handicap has taken a drop from 26 to 21, before the round she had a tight back and took 6 ibuprofen - perhaps we should get her drugs tested after that round!!
Young Ben Barrow (pictured above) took second place but amazingly he was 12 points behind Julie - the biggest winning margin we've ever had, and third place went to Martin Major on 37 points.
This Saturday we play the March Medal which starts at 11am.
Winter League Semi-Finals
We're now at the business end of the Winter League and the first semi-final was played on Sunday, in form Julie Daines was playing off her new lower handicap with partner James Eaton and the two times Winter League champions would have been feeling confident, however they were up against the formidable pair of Steve Bond and Steve Nicholson who had been very consistent in the qualifying stages.
It was a slightly scrappy match and James and Julie took an early lead, it was nip and tuck throughout and the two Steve's pulled them back to all square after 16. The 17th hole proved crucial as Steve Nicholson won the hole with a shot and they held on to this lead on the last hole to secure a hard fought win. The next semi-final between Paul and Kieran Underwood and Jonno Ness and Stuart Gray takes place this Sunday.
Rhys in America
Most of you will be aware that our talented young member Rhys Nevin has been out in America on the first year of a golf scholarship at Tennessee University, he seems to be settling in nicely and is loving life out in sunny America playing at top courses all over the country.
As a freshman Rhys has been making steady progress on the team and he had his first top ten finish in the latest tournament at Sawgrass Country Club including a superb bogey-free 5 under par 67 in the second round, the team placed 8th overall and Rhys was the highest finisher from the Tennessee team in 9th place.
As they say in America - 'great job Rhys!'
