Winter league

Winter League Review

It was a slightly wet round in the Winter League on Sunday but despite the heavy rain of the weekend the golf course was still in excellent condition, amazingly there was a total of 5 pairs that all returned 23 points and even after a card play-off there was a three-way tie for top spot. So in no particular order Paul and Kieran Underwood, Phil Sheridan and Tim Hulme and Steve Bond and Steve Nicholson all took a share of the spoils in first place.

In the overall standings it's also a very close affair and with three rounds remaining it will surely go down to the wire:

1. Jonno Ness & Stuart Gray 114 points
2. Antony Green & Dave Johnson 111 points
3. Tim Barnes & Chris Whalley 110 points
4. Julie Daines & James Eaton 109 points

Remember that it's the Daily Mail Foursomes qualifier competition on Saturday at 11am, the winning pair will win free entry to represent the club in the national Daily Mail Foursomes knockout competition, at the moment the tee-sheet is looking a bit empty so it would be good to see a few more members put their names down before Saturday!

New arrivals

We are one of the first venues in the country to host a Callaway 2017 Fitting Day on Wednesday 8th February from 2-6pm, Callaway's Tom Gradwell will be here to fit 8 lucky golfers for FREE on any of the clubs in their 2017 range. This day will be very popular and you must book a fitting slot in advance, contact us here to book a slot now.

If you can't make our fitting day don't worry as we can still provide a full Callaway fitting (including the new hot new GBB Epic drivers) for you in our studio just get in touch with us to book a time.

We were also excited to take delivery of some new PING irons just released for 2017, since our fitting studio opened it's doors we have sold more sets of PING custom fitted irons than any other brand and that's because you know what you're getting with a Ping iron - a good solid iron that performs well in terms of forgiveness and distance that you can rely on.

The new PING irons are the better players i200 iron and a great new ladies iron, the i models have always been aimed at mid-low handicappers that blends feel and sleek looks with forgiveness and distance and the noticeable T-Bar shape at the back of the head moves mass to where it's needed the most - behind the ball. The new ladies iron replaces the popular Rhapsody range and it shows all the hallmarks of being another winner by providing all the best features of the award winning G irons in a ladies version.

But rather than read about these new irons come into the shop and we'll give you a demo 7 iron that you can try and you can see for yourself how good these PING irons are!

Members news

Hartford's Alternative Club Awards

Last week we revealed that Matt Leach was our Bandit of the Year in 2016, this week we're going to announce the HACA for the Round of the Year for 2016.

It's always hard to pick just one good round when we have so many competitions and great winning scores, a few highlights from 2016 were Kath Hough's great round in Kath's Kup to win her own trophy, Paul Frost's massive 46 point haul in the seniors May Stableford and Jonno Ness's excellent nett 62 to win the July Medal.

Gemma
Davies had two great rounds in particular in 2016 - a 45 point total in the ladies April Stableford and a fine nett 63 in the September Midweek Medal which capped an excellent season for her in which she went from 31 down to a 24 handicap.

A great round doesn't always have to be a very low one - Chris Whalley's nett 64 to win the nett prize in the Club Championship and Martin Major's 40 points score containing a commendable 14 pars in the President's Trophy were both great rounds played under pressure to win board competitions.

By our reckoning there were two nett 59's last summer in competitions so we picked these as the best rounds, young Ben Barrow is no stranger to low scoring and he fired a nett 59 in the August Medal but just pipping him for the award is Marc Williams who also shot a wonderful nett 59 in the July Midweek Medal and impressively he won by an incredible 12 shots, this feat makes him the winner of our HACA for Round of 2016 - well done Marc

Next week it's the big one - who was our 2016 Club Thrower of the Year?

Ladies news

It was a bitterly cold day for the ladies on Thursday for their first nine hole Stableford of the year, the weather didn't make for low scores and there were four players that scored 14 points - Kath Hough came fourth and Sandra Peake was third but Rita Milburn and Joyce Graham had identical back 6, 3 and 1 scores but they were finally separated after looking at the front 6 scores with Rita prevailing to take first place.
