It's a warm welcome to our weekly newsletter and again we bring you the latest news and goings on both here and in the golfing world.
In this week's news:
- Gary is the cash king in the Medal! - USA just too strong for Europe this time - Try the hottest driver in golf - New Autumn clothing arrivals - Alan returns to the winners circle - Upcoming events
It was a quiet October Medal on Saturday - may be everyone was busy watching the Ryder Cup! A couple of squally showers also made conditions difficult but Gary Cashmore didn't seem to struggle too much as he won his second competition out of the last three with a nice nett 67, clearly the new Callaway driver we fitted Gary for with a slightly shorter shaft is doing the business and he is now a golfer in form.
In second place was young Cheshire player Kieran Underwood who had two birdies in his nett 67, he just lost out on first place after a card playoff. Steve Simmons took third place with a level par nett 69.
This Sunday we play the first round of our popular Winter League starting at 11am, this is a pair's competition and it's still not too late to enter, if you would like to enter please contact me here.
Even though Europe didn't win the Ryder Cup on this occasion it really was a spectacular event with a great atmosphere that we really enjoyed watching and suppose Europe can't win it every time!
Team Europe got off to the worst possible start with a 4-0 defeat in the first morning's Ryder Cup matches, after this they were always playing catch up and at the end of the day the American team seemed to have that much more strength in depth and they holed a few more crucial putts than the European players.
There were some great matches on the last day including Rory McIlroy's passionate battle against in form Patrick Reed but the match that really stood out for us was between the two Ryder Cup stalwarts Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickleson with a collective 19 appearances - they both played some sparkling golf and traded birdie after birdie to end up all square, such was the quality of the golf their betterball score would have been a mind boggling 58!
Have a look here again at the moment McIlroy and Reed caused absolute pandemonium when they both holed long birdie putts on the par 3 fifth hole - simply amazing!
We already can't wait for the next Ryder Cup in France in 2018, Europe will surely be out for revenge.
The other day we very excitedly took delivery of what is definitely the hottest driver in golf - the new Titleist 917 drivers and we've already helped golfers improve their games through 917 custom fitting sessions. Did you know that this latest driver has been 5 years in the making and after constant refinement and improvement Titleist have brought out their most forgiving driver yet with new levels of adjustability so your optimum ball flight can be achieved.
The radial 2.0 face design has 8 varying levels of thickness in its design and the result is incredibly high ball speeds even with off-centre strikes you can still achieve as much as 90% of the distance you would get from a strike right out of the middle, in our view this is unparalleled forgiveness and it has already been shown in the club fittings we have carried out with golfers hitting the ball both further and straighter.
Have a look here at Tour player Ian Poulter hitting the new driver and explaining why he couldn't wait to put it straight into his bag!
It's always nice to get golfers in for fittings with our new drivers as we get the chance to show them that it's not just hype and that new driver technology does work and will result in better performance. This was again the case on Saturday as we saw Steve Cartlidge and with the new 917 driver he not only picked up an extra 10 yards of distance through a 6mph increase in ball speed over his old Titleist driver but he also narrowed his dispersion down so that he will also be hitting more fairways, definitely a win-win situation and another happy golfer!
You really don't want to miss out on trying the new 917 drivers, if you would like to improve your golf book a fitting now with us here.
The seniors had another bumper turn out for their latest 18 hole Stableford, the winner was Alan Phillips who scored 43 points, this was his first victory of the season - well done Alan and your handicap drops to 25! Chris Coates took second place on 40 points and third place went to Graham Bower on 38 points.
Autumn arrivals
If you've played golf recently you will have noticed the weather getting that much colder in the mornings and evenings - autumn has pretty much arrived and luckily we have you covered with lots of great new clothing arrivals in the shop from Nike, Galvin Green, Under Armour, adidas and FootJoy. We had plenty of golfers running into the shop at the weekend to buy tops after not realising how cold the weather suddenly was!
Golf at this time of year and going into the winter is all about layering up, if it's very cold a thermal base layer is akin to the foundations that your house is built on, without this you will be freezing and won't enjoy your golf and then you can add layers on from there depending on the weather.
For the autumn you will probably be fine wearing a light top over your shirt that you can take off and they are ideal to keep in your golf bag if the weather does turn colder, one of our bestselling garments is the Under Armour 1/4 zip fleece Storm sweater - the lightweight fleece fabric provides a soft and warm feel with a brushed inner layer for thermal insulation, it also offers a water resistant finish and at £49.99 it's great value for money.
