Hello again folks and welcome to the latest newsletter, Olympics fever has been grabbing the nation again this week and team Great Britain and Ireland seem set to better their massive medal haul from London 2012. The golf tournament at Rio had a shaky start with many of the world's top players withdrawing and low crowds for the first few days but the battle for a gold medal came to life on Sunday afternoon as two of the best golfers in the world - Open Champion Henrik Stenson and 2013 US Open winner Justin Rose had a shootout for first place.
They were neck and neck all the way until a decisive moment on the par five 18th hole, both players were just short of the green for two but Stenson could only pitch to around 20 feet from the flag, this opened the door for Rose and he took full advantage hitting a stunning shot in to within 2 feet of the hole, once Stenson made his par it was left to Rose to tap in for a winning birdie.
Not only was it good to see a British winner of the first golfing gold medal awarded for 112 years but also Justin Rose was one of the biggest supporters of golf returning as an Olympics event and he embraced the event wholeheartedly, his celebrations after holing the winning putt showed how much the gold medal meant to him and it put to shame some of the other leading players who had stayed at home.
Here is Justin's tweet after collecting his medal.

Captain's Day Review
Our Captain's Day is always one of the highlights of the year and we had a great turnout of 64 golfers on Saturday, Captain's Paul Underwood and Audrey Kettle did a fantastic job of organising events and in the end the weather turned out to be pretty good. In the Stableford competition there were some great scores, none more so than 29 handicapper Sue Gunning who took top spot with a fantastic 45 point score including a front nine of 26 points with a birdie two on the seventh hole.
In second place was another promising lady golfer in Beth Littler who scored 44 points including a birdie on the fifteenth hole, Beth didn't score on the difficult last hole which meant she finished just one point behind Sue.
In third place was Chris Bird with a fine 41 points score, Chris picked up his newly fitted Titleist driver that morning and he put it straight into play, it obviously made all the difference as he took third spot with his best score of the season. Chris' round again shows the effect of using a correctly fitted club and the positive effects it can have on your game, Chris hadn't even been using a driver as he had no confidence in the club he had bought off the shelf, but after a custom fitting session he has now got a driver that has helped his game already and his handicap has dropped a shot to 11. Click here to book your fitting session with us now.
After the afternoon's golf the long standing tradition is for the members to get together and chuck the men's captain into the ninth pond by the green, Paul was a willing volunteer for this and here is the photographic evidence of his dunking. Well done Paul on being such a good sport - although he didn't have much choice!
Then it was on to the evening celebrations and prize presentations for the winners, the Captain's also held a raffle to raise money for their chosen charities and we'll let you know how much they raised soon, but well done to Paul and Audrey for such a wonderful day and thanks to all the members who took part, each year the Captain's Day just gets better and better!

It was Kath Hough's birthday last Thursday and she had a day to remember as she won the newly named ladies competition Kath's Kup - also named in her honour so it really was an extra special day for her! Kath was a deserved winner as she had a great round of 38 points which was good enough to seal the victory, in second place was Elspeth Forbes on 36 points and Ann Broster came third on 35 points. Here is Kath receiving the glassware from lady captain Audrey.
Then on Monday the ladies played a nine hole evening Stableford, Wendy D'Arcy was the winner on this occasion with 20 points and Elspeth Forbes had her second runners up spot of the week with 19 points just ahead of Jill Bebbington also on 19 points.
The ladies 9 hole Stableford this Thursday has been cancelled as most of our ladies are away playing in the Pryors Hayes ladies Open, the usual tees are still reserved though for any ladies that still want to play here.
