Hello again golfers and welcome to our latest action packed newsletter, it's been another busy week at the club and the USPGA Championship at Baltusrol made for an exciting last day as the leaders played 36 holes. We bet that a lot of you had backed either Jason Day or Henrik Stenson to lift the famous Wannamaker Trophy but how many of you saw Jimmy Walker as being the eventual winner? In the end Walker's victory was well deserved as he lead wire to wire and rarely looked in any trouble in a flawless last round of 67 to see off the challenge of world number one Jason Day. So for the first time since 2011 this year's four majors winners are all first time major winners showing the depth of quality at the top of the game, here's a great photo of Walker and Stenson we found on social media with their Trophies.

Rhys' Perfect Weekend
It was a busy day on Saturday as we held a leaving competition for 18 year old Rhys Nevin-Wharton, Rhys is a talented young golfer who plays off +2 and has represented England and he is the current Cheshire boys Captain, he's lucky enough to be jetting off to America on Sunday to begin a golf scholarship with Tennessee University. Rhys had the perfect start to his weekend on Friday as he won the Cheshire Juniors Championship at Delamere Forest, after a first round 77 he fired back in the afternoon with a five under par 67 including birdies on the last two holes to win by one shot.
We're very proud to say that Rhys started his golfing career here at our club and we will be following his progress in America closely, a total of 64 golfers turned out on Saturday to play in a Texas Scramble with an orange Tennessee theme before we had a barbecue afterwards, in the end as is traditional Rhys was thrown into the ninth pond so he got a proper send off!!
Good luck Rhys and enjoy the experience, we'll see you when you get back for Christmas!
It's now less than two weeks until our Captain's Day on Saturday 13th August hosted by men's captain Paul Underwood and ladies captain Audrey Kettle, as usual there will be a Stableford competition during the daytime before a night time party with a barbecue, DJ and disco with a late bar.
The dress code is smart casual and tickets are priced at £20 if you buy them before 7th August, after that they will cost £25 and just £10 for children. All proceeds are going to the Captain's chosen charities so get your tickets now from the bar it should be a great night!
This week we've taken delivery of the stunning new PING iBlade demo 7 iron, PING are at the top of the game in terms of golf equipment and irons in particular, and this new iBlade - aimed at a low to mid handicapper, seems set to continue that trend.
Sometimes club manufacturers get criticised for bringing clubs out too quickly but this certainly isn't the case for PING as this new iBlade iron replaces the companies S55 model which was brought out three years ago, PING won't rush to bring a club out but instead they wait until they definitely have something to release that is better than a previous model. The iBlade is everything you would expect from PING offering the softest feel of any of their irons alongside a compact look and maximum feel and workability.
A tungsten weight insert means that weight is saved across the face which means that ball speeds are high and launching the ball is very easy meaning that as well as offering great feel the iBlade also offers strong distance and accuracy.
Call in to the shop now and you can try the demo iron or if you would like to book a fitting contact me here.
The ladies played a Summer Stableford last Thursday, unfortunately it didn't feel like a summer Stableford as the rain poured down for the front nine although the sun eventually came out, it was Margaret Cherry that handled the conditions the best with a 37 point winning total, Margaret put her success down to living in Scotland for many years in which she had a lot of experience of playing golf in the rain!
In second place was Annie Rowland with 36 points and in third place was Alaine Britton on 34 points. This weekend will be quiet as the ladies are on their lady captain's away weekend.
There was a junior competition on Sunday and there was a good turnout, from the yellow tees the winner was Joel Cann with a fantastic nett 58 playing off 36 although that handicap will be dropping now! In second place was Ben Barrow on nett 69 and in third place was Mitchell Reeves with nett 74.
This Sunday there is an Olympics themed junior competition with fun games starting at 12pm before the golf competition starts at 1pm, to register your interest in playing or if you're keen to get your child into golf please contact us here.
