Rhys receives England call up 

It was a great weekend for one of our junior members, 16 year old Rhys Nevin has received a call up to play for England's junior team against Spain in Madrid.

Rhys played in the prestigious 72 hole Fairhaven Trophy which involves some of the best under-18 players in Europe and a superb first round three under par 69 meant he was leading and he also reduced his handicap to scratch, even though he had a couple of bad holes towards the end of the third round he still finished in a very creditable tie for twelfth place.

This performance was obviously noticed by the selectors as he received a call up to play for England in Spain and also qualified for the Daily Telegraph Junior Championships Final in Portugal. Well played Rhys - what a great start to the season and he is the first scratch member at Hartford! 

Adam finishes in runners up spot in Foremost Championship 

Our club PGA Professional Adam Powell played in the Foremost Golf Championship at Handley Wood in London last week, this is a competition for the UK's best club professionals who are members of the Foremost group.

Adam shot a great score of 70 to finish in joint second place, he also scored his third career hole in one on the sixteenth hole when playing a practice round the day before, well played Adam! 

National Golf Month has now begun 

May is national golf month and we are fully behind it here at Hartford Golf Club, we have plenty going on for both new and current golfers, for example Adam Powell is offering a FREE 30 minute lesson for you and a friend that you may like to introduce to the game of golf and we have ten different taster and refresher sessions planned throughout the month. May Medal Results 

Patrick Scanlan won the May Medal on Saturday, the course was in great condition with the greens running at around 7.5 on the stimpmeter and the scoring was good, Patrick came in with a fantastic nett 65 and he was on fire on the front nine as he had three birdies to go out in a gross 36 shots, 8 shots better than his handicap!

Despite a few wobbles on the back nine he held on to top the leaderboard, in second place was the familiar name of Paul Underwood with a nett 66 who has been in great form recently and in third place was Steve Bond who also returned a nett 66 including a run of eight successive pars to finish. 

Well done also to Dave Johnson (pictured) who scored an amazing three two's! This is the first time that I know of that one player has scored so many two's in a competition, he must have hit some great iron shots with those new Tiltleist irons we fitted him for! 

Bank Holiday Stableford 

There was another Bank Holiday Stableford on Monday and the winner was Matt Jackson with a score of 40 points highlighted by a birdie on the first for 4 points, in second place was Ken Powell who had a great finish of five consecutive pars to score 39 points. Third place went to in form Patrick Scanlan on 38 points and Ian Tier scored the only two on the sixteenth hole. 

The competitions are coming thick and fast now as the Barnes Trophy is coming up this Saturday at 12pm and with a lot of golfers hitting form it's wide open! 

Ladies News 

The ladies played their second West Cheshire Shield Match at home against a strong ladies side from Heswall Golf Club but our ladies held their own as the final score was a draw 3.5-3.5, their next match is away at Wallasey Golf Club on Monday.
