May Medal Review
The May Medal was played on Sunday and let's hope it was the last wet Medal for a while! It was our much loved Handicap Secretary Ian Daines that took the victory with a two under par nett 67 after four straight pars to finish. Ian's had a decent start to the season and after his fourth place finish in the Inaugural Trophy he now has a Medal win to his name. It begs the question, can the Handicap Secretary cut his own handicap on general play?! The runners up spot went to 19 handicapper Steve Simmons on a nett 69 and third place went to Wendy Lock also on nett 68, in the Summer Order of Merit the early leader is Dave Johnson on 29 points, second is Martin Major and third is Ian Daines.

CES Is All You Need
We're now into the month of May and the weather is picking up at last, it is also the month when we herald the return of our famous Complete Equipment Solution (CES) - in our opinion it's easily the best offer we have running in the shop all year and it's always well supported.
With the CES you really can change your game permanently for the better, we will give you a FREE fitting session for a new set of irons or a new driver, and if we can find some equipment that will improve your game and if you make a purchase we will also offer you a FREE 30 minute follow up lesson! So you can take the opportunity to get some new clubs that will help your game but also offer you a swing check up to make sure that you use your clubs to their full potential - if this doesn't help your game improve we don't know what else will!
It's no coincidence that when you look at the members names at the top of the leaderboards they have almost all been custom fitted for their clubs and/or they've recently had a lesson from one of our pro's, the benefits are obvious - you play better golf with the right equipment and when you get the right advice, with the CES you will hit better shots and therefore you are guaranteed to enjoy your golf more!
Have a look at this video regarding the CES with Callaway - they really are the hot brand in golf at the moment, with 6 tour wins in a row, including Danny Willett's fantastic Masters victory and their clubs are definitely worth a try.
What are you waiting for? This really can change your game - contact us now to get your session booked in.
Here's the first of our Captain's Corner news, which will become a regular feature, from new club captain Paul Underwood:
This year I am keen to play with as many of the members as possible, so if you see my name down for a competition and there is a space, then feel free to put your name down, particularly if I haven't played with you this year. My target will be to see if I can play some golf with between 100 and 150 members during my captain's year. My total so far is 13.
My first team match as Captain Vs Gatley, in the 9 Hole leagu,e unfortunately ended in defeat, thanks to the team for braving the elements as the snow fell near the end. The team were Bobby Williams, Alan Royle, Stuart Gray, Stu Fallows, Gaz Leigh, Chis Whalley and a special thanks to Paul Foster who hot-footed it over from playing Pryors Hayes at short notice, with the team being one short.
For those of you that may not have heard, I have made a commitment that ANY adult member that wants to play in a team match will get at least one game if they put their name up on the fixture list on the main club board. It is an honour to represent the club and I would like as many people to experience it as possible. Next up is Oak Royal on the 8th May.
Although I am playing reasonably well I am keen to get my handicap down so I've booked in with Adam. I am also going to play him in a charity challenge where he will take anyone on with a junior left handed club, more details to follow.
A good start for my chosen Charity, the Russett School in Weaverham, due to the Captain's Drive in and subsequent competitions has meant that we have already raised over £140. Don't forget to contribute by putting your Captain's Pond 'fine' in the payment slot in the conservatory, whether you are in a competition or not, a replacement sign will be in place soon.
My final word for this month is please help make the job just a little easier for the green-keeping staff by replacing divots and repairing pitch marks even if you haven't made them yourself. If everyone takes care of the course then we all benefit.
Regards,
Paul
Bank Holiday Stableford
The Bank Holiday Stableford started in wet conditions on Monday, but it was at least finished in the sunshine. The winner was 14 handicapper Steve Holehouse (pictured) who scored 38 points, including two birdies on the back nine, these proved crucial as he just edged out Alan Nevin, who also scored 38 on a card play-off. Vice-Captain Ian Wharton showed a welcome return to form with 37 points to take third place. A special mention also to Alan Tayler, who was very miffed to have scored a two, but as he didn't enter the two's pool he doesn't win any shop credit, an expensive mistake Alan!
There will be another Bank Holiday Stableford on Monday 30th May, don't forget that there's also a Midweek Medal taking place this coming Wednesday - the entry sheets are on the notice board.
Gemma Davies has been showing signs of good form recently and we knew a good round was coming, we didn't realise it would be quite so good though! She scored the best points total we've had in any singles competition for a good while with a massive 45 point haul, Gemma started off on fire with 25 front nine points and after a par on the difficult 10th hole she stood on the 11th tee with 29 points already under her belt! In the end 45 points was her total and with that comes a handicap reduction to 27, well played Gemma.
Elspeth Forbes finished a slightly distant second with another solid round of 38 points and third place went to Ann Rowland on 34 points. The next Ladies competition is coming up this Monday - it's the first evening 9 hole Stableford of the season which starts at 5:32pm.
The seniors played an 18 hole Stableford last Tuesday.19 handicapper Roy Strefford (pictured) had a great round as he scored 43 points, with four pars in a row on the front nine. He had 23 points before the turn and another 20 coming back in, he is now off 18.
Runners up spot went to Paul Green on 41 points, he also came second in March so he must be due a victory soon! Alan Tayler finished third with 39 points, but this time he didn't score any two's!
