Competition news

April Medal preview

The April Medal marked the beginning if our season on Sunday and the course was in excellent condition with a strong turnout of 43 golfers teeing it up, left hander Dave Johnson was our top player in the winter and he carried on just where he left off with a victory in our first competition of the summer. Dave defied a steady breeze to play very consistent golf to finish with an exceptional score of nett 64 and he drops his handicap to 9.

There were four players with the next best score of nett 69 but Antony Green came second courtesy of his better back nine, third place went to our recent hole in one man Tim Barnes. Ian Daines would have been gutted to score a triple bogey 7 on the last hole which cost him a runners up position... There was also a 19 scored on the 10th hole (we won't mention who)!! But in the end nobody came close to challenging Dave's winning score.

The competitions come thick and fast now with the Spring Stableford taking place this Saturday at 12pm.

Captains news

Captains drive in in style

We had our traditional start to the summer as firstly our new Lady Captain Audrey Kettle had her drive in on Saturday and on Sunday new men's Captain Paul Underwood had his drive in.

The weather wasn't great on Saturday morning as there was quite a lot of rain but this didn't dampen any of our ladies spirits as Audrey stepped up to the tee and hit a cracking drive in front of a good crowd. In fact Audrey hit the ball so well she hit it further than any of our ladies had guessed by placing their flags in the fairway, funnily enough the closest guess came from retiring captain Annie Rowland. Here's the video of Audrey performing for the camera!

On Sunday the weather was much better for our new Captain Paul Underwood and again he was buoyed on by a slightly more raucous crowd, the pressure didn't get to him as he hit a great drive up the right side of the fairway which was measured at 229 yards. Vice-captain Ian Wharton's first shot wasn't quite as good as you can see from the video

Photo of the week

Its ok it's not the Loch Ness monster in one of our ponds but member Stuart Fallows making an early entry for the club thrower of the year award for 2016, he hurled his 8 iron an impressive distance into the middle of the fifth hole pond after an errant tee-shot.

Here he is trying his best to retrieve said club out of the water and we're sure he received lots of sympathy from his playing partners whilst doing it!!

Fitting news

A reminder that we have two fitting days coming up next week, they are:

- Benross on Thursday 14th April 10am-2pm
- Titleist Friday 15th April 10am-2pm (just 2 slots left)

Click here if you would like to book a FREE fitting on either of these days or just feel free to turn up on the day to try some clubs out.

Seniors section

Our new seniors Captain also drove in to office on Tuesday morning, in keeping with our other two captains Geoff Dodd also found the middle of the fairway with a good tee-shot.

There was a nine hole Stableford to follow which was the first event in the seniors Summer League, and the winner was none other than Mr Captain himself with 18 points and he didn't even score on the last hole!

In second place was John Gunning and also a special mention to John Sykes who pitched in from 80 yards out for an eagle two on the fourth hole for a 5 point score!

Ladies news

The lady captain's nine hole Stableford was a wet affair on Saturday but well done to all 33 ladies that braved the elements and Jo Cameron didn't let the rain spoil her game too much as she scored 18 points to establish a winning score, in second place was Keira Wharton and in third place was Wendy Lock also on 16 points.
