Welcome golfers to what is officially our first newsletter of this spring! With the Easter Bank Holiday coming up this weekend as well as the clocks changing and the improving weather it really feels like we're getting into the start of the golf season and hopefully you will get a chance to play during the Easter break, there's been a lot going on here as usual.

Midweek Stableford Review

The final Midweek Stableford of the winter was played last Wednesday and it was left hander Dave Shering that took the victory with 43 points, Dave played with Vice-captain Paul Underwood and they had a great battle as Paul also played some great golf to score 42 points including two birdies to chase Dave all the way. Alan Nevin scored 40 points in taking third place.

  

Dave's victory also meant that he won the Midweek Order of merit competition, he went into the last competition tied for the lead with Stuart Fallows but Dave's win and Stuart's seventh place finish meant that Dave takes the title. Click here to view the final standings.




Well done to Patrick Scanlan and Gareth Leigh who won their first round match in the Daily Mail Foursomes competition away against a pair from Runcorn Golf Club. Gareth proved a worthy last minute replacement for James Eaton who had to pull out with illness and they secured a convincing 4 and 3 victory to advance to the next round.

  

The club AGM took place on Sunday, it was preceded by a nine hole Stableford and Winter League runner up Antony Green took first place with a 22 point total he didn't even score on the second hole but played the last six holes in an impressive two under par. Incoming captain Paul Underwood continued his good run of form with a second successive runners up spot on 20 points, third place went to our young Cheshire star Kieran Underwood on 19 points.

The next competition is the Bank Holiday Stableford then we have the Captain's Drive in and the April Medal a week on Sunday, there are already lots of names down on the entry sheet and it would be good if you could all arrive early to cheer Paul on when he hits the opening tee shot of the season - there may be a few nerves on his part!
