This is the first in a new feature that we will bring you every week in which we feature a member of the Golf Club, and as it’s the first one we thought what better place to start than with this year’s men’s Captain Chris Bird.
Handicap? - 'It's currently 10.8'
How long have you been playing golf? - 'I played a little bit when I was a kid, but I've been playing regularly since 1999 and a member at Hartford for the last 6 years'
Who is your favourite pro golfer? - 'My all-time hero is Seve Ballesteros and my favourite current golfer is Sergio Garcia - because he comes second a lot a bit like me!'
What is the best golf course that you have played? - 'I've been lucky enough to play St. Andrews, Valderrama and Sawgrass but I would say my favourite is San Roque in Spain, because that is where Seve played a lot of his golf early in his career'
What's your best round of golf? - 'I played to my handicap around Valderrama and scored 43 points at Pryors Hayes on my first visit which I was happy with but I would say my best competitive round was a gross 74 at Hartford off the white tees'
Who would you play with in your dream fourball? - 'Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo and Ian Daines - I've chosen Ian as I wouldn't want to be the hacker in the group!'
If you could play any course in the world which would it be? - 'It would undoubtedly be Augusta, I would also love to play the Olazabal course at Mission Hills in China or Sun City in South Africa as they look amazing on TV.'
Favourite golfing destination? - 'I like the Villamoura resort in Portugal, I would love to be part of a club away trip there as they are great courses and great night life!'

Do you know your distances?
We have a selection of Distance Measuring Devices (DMD's) in stock and they are the hottest products in golf at the moment. The reason they are so useful is that they really do help your golf as they provide you with accurate yardages to the flag which in turn gives you a definite idea how far you hit each club, this is an essential part of good golf - you can't possibly play your best golf if you don't know how far you need to hit your approach shot or which club to use!

Midweek Stableford results
The November Midweek Stableford was played yesterday and we had a first time winner in 22 handicapper Mike Angel who scored 42 points, this was just good enough to hold off Steve Simmons on 41 points and Chris Whalley also played some good golf including birdies on holes eight and ten to score 39 points.
Winter League round up
The second round of the Winter League took place on Sunday and the weather was kind to our competitors as the sun made an appearance, the winning pair was Ian Daines and Keira Wharton who dovetailed well to par eight out of their nine holes and score 22 Stableford points. Tim Barnes and Steve Holehouse had to settle for second place despite two birdies in the first 7 holes they looked like establishing a winning total but a two bogey finish meant they also scored 22 points, Steve Nicholson and Paddy Scanlan scored 21 points to finish in third position just as they did in the first round.
The next competition is the November Bogey which is coming up this Saturday at 11am.
The Seniors played a 9 holes three club and a putter challenge on Tuesday morning and despite the lesser number of clubs and windy conditions the scoring was very good. The winner was Geoff Dodd who came in with a brilliant nett 30 including a two on the fifth hole, in second place was Mike Eddison, who birdied the first on his way to a nett 32 and in third was Peter Dawson who had two birdies in his nett 34.
The Seniors have been getting a great turn out every Tuesday morning so due to the higher number of players it's been decided to move their start time a little bit earlier. From next week they will be starting at 9.16am every Tuesday.
The latest ladies competition was a nine hole Stableford last Thursday, the winner was the in form Jean Clare who scored 20 points including a brilliant birdie two on the seventh hole. Jean has been working hard on her game recently and has been seeing Adam for regular lessons, this has certainly paid off as her handicap has dropped from 35 to 31, well done Jean! Bonita Alecock and Sandra Peake also scored 20 points and came second and third respectively after a card play off.
The next ladies competition is this Sunday as they play an 18 hole Stableford starting at 12:04pm.
Rhys to appear on Sky Sports TV
Look out for our young England international member, Rhys Nevin-Wharton, who will be featured on Sky Sports on Wednesday 19th November at 8pm. Sky will be showing a highlights package of the Daily Telegraph Junior Championship in Portugal where Rhys played really well to finish in 2nd place. Click here for a preview trailer for the show.
