FREE golf introduction sessions They say that you don’t get anything for free nowadays – well we wanted to prove this theory completely wrong as we are providing FREE taster sessions for new golfers as an introduction to the game with Adam Powell - a member of our PGA coaching team. The sessions are an ideal chance for someone you know to try the game and see if it is for them. They are aimed at beginners who have not been on the course before and all equipment is provided, there are eight session dates to choose from with four being for ladies only and the other four being open to men or ladies and each session lasts one hour. If they enjoy their introduction to the game, there are four more follow on sessions which are also completely FREE to sign up for, so in effect you will get 5 hours of tuition free of charge! Have a look at the attached poster and tell all your friends and family about it as places are already going quickly, beginners can sign up for a taster session here.

Hartford Masters review The Hartford Masters competition pits the ‘best of the best’ as the limited field contains players that have to qualify over the season, as such it is a coveted title and it comes with our very own traditional Masters style green jacket. There was an early tie at the top on nett 70 with Alan Tayler claiming the clubhouse lead over Chris Whalley courtesy of a better back 3 holes, Alan had some wobbly moments with his putter but he managed to return a one over par score that was not bettered until the last two ball came in. Five handicapper Kieran Underwood actually scored a nett 66 but managed to sign for a nett 67 which was still more than a good enough score take top spot over Alan and having won the Masters last year, Kieran clearly didn’t want to relinquish the green jacket out of his grasp. Kieran is now a three times Hartford Masters champion, an excellent achievement. Unfortunately the latest results aren’t displayed on the website at the moment as we have had computer issues but we should be back up and running before the weekend.

Pryors Hayes match In our annual team match against sister club Pryors Hayes on Sunday we just lost out 4-3, thanks to Pryors and Captain Dave Massey for their hospitality and hopefully next year we’ll get revenge as it will be our turn to play at home.
President’s Trophy This week we play for the President’s Trophy which is our curtain call to the summer season and our final board competition of the year - it’s good to see that the entry sheet is nearly full and there is already a healthy entry sheet for our Winter League which begins on Saturday 13th October.

Midweek Medal round-up Peter Kinsey claimed his second Midweek Medal of the summer with a fine nett 66 on Wednesday, we had a good turnout of 26 players for the final Wednesday competition of the summer season. Peter played steady golf the whole way round and his front nine was actually slightly better, his handicap has now fallen from 21 at the start of the season to 15, well done Peter we can’t call you too much of a bandit anymore! Inform Kieran Underwood also returned a nett 66 (which was correct on this occasion!!) but he just lost out on first place to Peter after a countback and Eddy Williams claimed his best finish so far in his fledgling golf career with a third place on nett 68. The Midweek Order of Merit Trophy was claimed by Paul Cunningham after a 7th place finish on nett 71 which saw him overtake leader Dave Britton who missed out on the top ten despite being just a shot back on nett 72, Paul had four top 5 finishes in the 6 counting Midweek Medals and final standings were: 1st - Paul Cunningham = 39 points 2nd - Dave Britton = 35 points 3rd - Chris Whalley = 29 points The next Midweek competition will be a Stableford on Wednesday 10th October.

Seniors Section The seniors played the last round of their Summer League last Tuesday and a total 0f 28 players teed it up, this was a little down on usual numbers but the weather was pretty wet and miserable for the first few holes before brightening up. The top four players in the Summer League were put out in the same group just to add a bit of needle to proceedings, in the end Brian Thomas, who was leading by 3 points from Keith Morrish and Brian Whitworth, managed to maintain his position and has won the Seniors Summer League – well done Brian a great achievement. In the final round the winner on the day was Roger Farley with 20 points and well done to Tony Ledson who scored the only two of the day on the 5th hole. Seniors Vice-Captain Paul Green has arranged his away day for the 23rd October at Aldersey Green at a cost of £22 per member. A note is on the senior’s noticeboard requesting names. |

Work gets underway We are sure that you will agree what a great job Course Manager Dave Jones has done in his first 12 months here at Hartford, alongside his assistant Harlie and with the help of Nigel and Martin. The greens are as good as they have ever been and this is despite a wet winter followed by a very dry, warm summer which have certainly provided challenging conditions to work with. However after hearing lots of feedback from visitors, we can honestly say that our course has been in better condition than many other local more ‘prestigious’ clubs. As we enter the winter programme for the course, next week will involve essential course maintenance. On Monday the greens will be micro-tined, over-seeded and top dressed, and on Tuesday the tees will be scarified, over-seeded and top-dressed also to set them up for the winter season. On these two days there may be the odd temporary tee or green in operation but work will be carried out with as little disruption as possible and please remember that the greenkeepers have priority at all times. You may have already noticed that there has been a new tee set up on the 8th hole which will be in operation soon as a new men and ladies winter tee to protect the main tee for next season. We have also purchased a new bench which you will see out on the course in the next few weeks so golfers can rest their weary feet! As ever if you have any questions about the golf course and how it is set up contact us here or grab Dave when you seem him and he will be happy to help.

With the Ryder Cup coming up next week, we can expect plenty of tense moments, particularly on the greens. You’ll probably notice that players on both sides will have the ability to hole out under huge amounts of pressure – who can forget Ian Poulter’s clutch putt on the 16th green at Medinah in 2012? |
Find a putter you can trust To replicate these kind of putts, whether that's in the monthly medal or playing for money with your friends, you need to choose a flatstick you can trust. Why not try out one of Scotty Cameron’s Futura putters? The current range involves several high-MOI mallets with tour-proven shapes, as well as improved alignment features and feel. Some of the best players in the world, such as Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, have Scotty putters in the bag, so you can be sure you’ll be in good company. |
