Ladies news The ladies played in dry but cool conditions for the Clare Cup last Thursday and there was a great winning score from Alaine Britton who has made huge strides with her golf so far this year. Alaine scored a five under par nett 64 with the undoubted highlight of the round being a brilliamt birdie on the 13th hole. Alaine's handicap has dropped from 28 to 26 and here she is receiving the Trophy from sponsor Jean Clare, Alaine also capped a nice day by winning the nearest the pin prize. Lady Captain Sue Gunning played some lovely golf in taking second place with a nett 67, she must love the 7th hole as she had an amazing two 2's on there, well done Sue! In third place was the ever consistent Elspeth Forbes with nett 68. In the Monday evening Stableford Wendy D'Arcy took the honours with 20 points, Jo Cameron was runner up with 18 points.

Pairs Competitions We played a pairs event on Saturday and the weather was fantastic as Steve Hulse and Chris Bird combined to great effect to take the victory with a 44 point score. In a round in which they rarely got themselves in any trouble, Steve and Chris fired 2 birdies and had just 6 bogeys - great golf by any standards. The young pairing of Javier Lang and Joel Cann pushed Steve and Chris all the way for top spot after they came in with 43 points, they also scored 2 birdies but the crucial difference was that they had just one more bogey to end up 1 point short of the winning total. Ian Daines and Paul Underwood completed the top three with 41 points.

On Monday Alan Royle and Alan Tayler played the third round of the Daily Mail Foursomes knockout competition at home against a pair from Grange Park, it was a close fought affair and the pairs went up the last hole all square but our guys got stuck in the trees on the left and they needed to hole a long putt to keep the match alive which just stayed out for them to unfortunately lose 1 down. This Saturday we play our second Major of the season and the weather is set fair so there should be a good turn out for the Barnes Trophy starting at 11am.
