Club Championship review

It was a nice sunny day on Saturday for our Club Championship and the course was in pristine condition, in the gross category Kieran Underwood prevailed with a 6 over par score of 75 for his second Major victory of the season. Kieran was looking in a bit of trouble after 12 holes sitting on a score of 7 over par but he dug in and made crucial birdies on holes 13 and 15 and a couple of solid pars to finish set up his winning score. Kieran is still involved in the Singles Knockout Trophy too so he still has a good chance of winning 3 out of 4 of our Majors this season which would be an unprecedented feat at Hartford!

Dave Johnson finished just a shot behind in the gross section with a 76, Dave also had a strong finish with a string of 7 pars in a row following an unfortunate 7 on the 10th hole. The big consolation for Dave is that his name will still go on the Majors board as he won the best nett in the Club Championship with a nett 66.

It was hard lines for fellow leftie Keira Wharton as she returned a nett 65 but her name won't go on the board as there is a separate Ladies Club Championship that is played for. Alan Tayler probably isn't a fan of the ninth hole at the moment - he fired a nett 67 but dropped a total of 7 shots on that hole to scupper his chances of winning.

This weekend we play another board competition as the Hartford Stag Trophy takes place on Sunday at 11am, there are two categories based on handicap so it gives everyone a good chance of getting their name on the board and also to claim a spot in the season ending Hartford Masters.

Captain's corner

In the ‘Mid-Week 9 hole league we have played (& won) two team matches since I last reported at home to Hale GC and away to Woodside GC, well done to all those who have represented us, a great effort. Unfortunately the match against Gatley GC was postponed as Gatley could not raise a team and the fixture will be re-arranged in the next few weeks - we're sitting in 4th place in the league at the moment with 2 games in hand on the leaders.

The next match is at home against Avro on the 19th July (1st tee @ 17.45hrs) and please add your name to the sign-up sheet if you’re available to play.

Well done to all the winners over the last few weeks, especially Kieran as double Major winner and it’s great to see new members competing in the competitions.

Please keep your ‘Captains’ Charity Fines’ coming in if you land in either of the bunkers on the 7th (or 16th) and we can help make a difference for my chosen charity of the year, The Alzheimer’s Society.

Finally, it’s now less than 3 weeks to ‘Captains Day’ on Saturday 29th July hosted by Ladies Captain, Sandra Peake and I.

As usual, there will be a Stableford competition during the day, before a night time party with a BBQ buffet, DJ & disco and a late bar.

Sandra & I would like all participants to wear either ‘BLUE’ or ‘ORANGE’ during the day on the golf course to represent our chosen charities.

The dress code in the evening is smart casual and tickets are priced at £15 if you buy them before 23rd July, after that they will cost £20.

All proceeds are going to our chosen charities so get your tickets now from the bar and I’m sure it will be a great night at Cheshire’s friendliest Golf Club!

Open sweepstake now in store

The Open Championship at nearby Royal Birkdale is coming up soon, starting on Thursday 20th July, as usual we are running an Open Sweepstake draw and tickets are selling fast. For just £1 per ticket you pick a players name out of the hat and we will be offering plenty of prizes including:
