US Open
I missed most of the US Open as I was chilling out on the beach but it certainly seemed to be a dominant win for Martin Kaymer who collected his second major championship victory. He must have played some great golf over the first two days to build up such a commanding lead, the tournament was effectively over after round two. His nine under par total was the second lowest ever in the history of the US Open and the German has almost certainly booked his place in this year's European Ryder Cup team and shown that he is back to the form that saw him briefly ranked number one player in the world back in 2010. His return to form is inspiration to us all that if you're golf seems a little in the doldrums stick with it, keep working and practicing and your game usually returns to it's best. Next up in terms of majors is our Open Championship at nearby Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Maddock Trophy
The Colin Maddock Trophy was played on Sunday, as our Honorary President loves his yellow golf balls the format is that a yellow ball must played on all the par 3's and double points are scored. Congratulations to junior member Kieran Underwood who won the Trophy with a score of 60 points and runner-up Pauline Nevin who certainly made the most of the double points available in scoring 59, Alan Royle was third with 56 points. A special mention to Joe Wilson, although he didn't win he shot a great gross score of 76 resulting in a general play cut of 2 shots to his handicap demonstrating that our juniors are certainly putting in the practice and seeing their handicaps tumble. The next competition is the Scratch Trophy on Sunday 29th June.
The Seniors had a great win against Walton Hall in a team match, Captain Graham Bower reported:
"We had an excellent team performance winning the match 7-1, the golf course was in perfect condition in every respect thanks to the great work of our Greenkeepers. We heard many favourable comments from Walton Hall golfers about the course and the food in the clubhouse. It was an excellent result and perfect weather!"
The latest nine hole Stableford was won by Joe McLean who has been in good form recently. Joe posted a 21 point winning score, second went to Pete Wildin with 20 points and third was Brian Singleton with 19 points.
