Hello again golfers and welcome to our latest newsletter bringing you all the goings on from Cheshire's friendliest Golf Club!
In this week's news:
- Sergio breaks his Major duck in stunning style - It's a sunny Spring Stableford - Sandra gets the ladies season off to a great start - Check out our latest hot deals - Have you gained distance yet? - Upcoming events
There is only one place we could start this week's newsletter and that is with our review of a sensational Masters Tournament at Augusta, although it would have been nice to see Englishman Justin Rose win a second Major it's hard to deny 37 year old Sergio Garcia his first Major victory and it seemed he was destined to win on Sunday - the same day as his great hero, Seve Ballesteros would have been 60.
Despite the curtain raising par 3 contest being cancelled on the Wednesday because of heavy rain the tournament had us gripped right from the first round on Thursday with further drama added when red hot favourite and world number one Dustin Johnson turned up at the course but had to pull out with a back injury.
We had four thrilling days of golf and going into the last round the leaderboard was packed full of the best players in the world, in the end as we headed to the back nine on the last day it was a shootout between best friends Rose and Garcia, the battle went one way and then the other and Garcia hit an incredible iron shot into hole 15 to set up an eagle, this was just the start of the drama as birdies and bogeys were traded before both players watched makeable putts for victory slide by the hole. So it was on to a playoff up the 18th hole again and after another wonderful approach shot by Garcia this time he made no mistake with the birdie putt and there was a massive out pouring of emotion as he secured his first Major victory and laid to rest a few demons.
Here is the winning putt again, it's a moment we will never get fed up of watching! Click here to view.
Spring Stableford
It was a wonderful sunny day on Saturday for our Spring Stableford and we had to wait until the last group had returned to find the winner, Simon Stephenson continued his good from from last week's April Medal and he was the leader in the clubhouse with 38 points including a brilliant two on the 7th hole. Simon held on until the last group when Marc 'Bobby' Williams came into to take the victory with 41 points including a back nine of 22 points, Bobby now sees his handicap fall to 18.
For Simon it was his second runners up finish in a row and surely a win is just around the corner, well done also to Andy Goolding who won a monster two's pot after last week was a roll over.
The next competition is on Monday as we play an Easter Bank Holiday Stableford and it has to be said that the golf course is in magnificent condition after the dry weather that we've had recently.
Lady Captain's drive-in
It was the first dry Lady Captain's drive-in with no rain in a couple of years and there was a cracking turn out of ladies to watch new Lady Captain Sandra Peake tee-off, Sandra doesn't mess about and she stepped up and quickly dispatched a cracking drive down the middle of the fairway, in fact it was so good it went further than any of the ladies had guessed! In the end the winner of the closest guess to the position of her drive was Kath Hough.
It was then on to a nine hole Stableford competition and the winner was Alaine Britton with 21 points, Alaine has been in great form recently and this was her second win in her last four competitions, the highlight of her round was a great birdie on the 6th hole and her handicap now drops to 27.
Jean Jones took second place on 18 points and third place went to Jo Cameron on 17 points. Well done to all the ladies and former Lady Captain Audrey Kettle who helped to raise the fantastic total of £3386.53 for last year's Lady Captain's charity - the Alzheimers Society.

Hartford Distance Gained Challenge
We're now into the second month of our challenge, last year we helped over 50 golfers gain distance on their drives through a custom fitting session and the biggest increase was a massive 45 yards extra through our Distance Gained Challenge.
If you're serious about your golf you really should take part in this challenge, we can virtually guarantee you extra distance on your drives through some expert advice from us and a custom fitting session, so far this year's biggest gain is an extra 20 yards for Dave Cotterill.
Not only can you gain more distance but we also have a fabulous prize, the golfer that increases their distance the most throughout March and April will win a prize of a FREE matching fairway wood to the driver that they were fitted for and purchased - so as well as hitting the ball further you could also win a fairway wood worth up to £249!
We can fit you for any of the 2017 ranges with leading models such as the Callaway Epic, TaylorMade M1 and M2's, the PING G series, Titleist 917's and Benross' new HTX range.
Surely this offer is too good to miss out on, especially if you're using an old driver from years ago or if you've never had a fitting before the improvements could be massive and this year we think we can beat last year's best of a 45 yard increase! Get booked in now for your fitting by contacting us here.
