Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter bringing you all the golfing news, it was a big Sunday for American Jim Furyk as he shot a remarkable 58 on the US PGA Tour - there have been approximately 613,000 rounds played on the US Tour and Furyk's is the lowest score ever. Even more amazingly Furyk is also the last player to shoot 59 on Tour, he might not have the best looking swing on Tour or be the biggest hitter but it just shows if you can repeat your action consistently and you have a solid short game then you will be on the path to golfing success!

August Medal Review
12 year old Ben Barrow has made great strides with his golf this season and he had his best round to date on Saturday in the August Medal, Ben blitzed around the course with a remarkable nett 59 including nine pars - not bad when you're playing off 20!
In March Ben was playing off 25 but he his handicap has now fallen by an incredible 10 shots to 15 after his latest victory, Ben has now won three competitions this summer and it's great to see him making such good progress.
Alan Royle would have felt slightly hard done by to score a fine nett 63 and only finish in second place, his round included a birdie on hole six. In third place was Mike Angel showing a return to form with a nice nett 64, he had a great back nine with six pars in his last seven holes.
Captain's Day coming up
Just to remind you all that our Captain's Day is coming up on Saturday hosted by Captain's Paul Underwood and Audrey Kettle, it is always one of the highlights of the year at the club and we hope to see a good turnout for the evening celebrations starting at 7:30pm.
Tickets are available now in the bar at £25 each or £10 for kids, please purchase them in advance rather than at the last minute to give us a good idea of numbers, there is a barbecue and disco with a late night bar until 1am and the dress code is smart casual. To reserve your tickets you can contact me here.
It was quiet at the club this weekend as our ladies embarked on their Captain's away weekend at Carden Park organised by lady captain Audrey Kettle. The weather was fantastic as the ladies enjoyed three rounds of golf over the Cheshire and the Nicklaus courses, on day one the winning Texas Scramble team were Ann Broster, Elspeth Forbes, Alison Worrall and Julie Daines.
Day two saw Sue Gunning win the Individual Stableford competition and on the last day there was a team Stableford won by Sue Gunning, Di Sommerville and Annie Rowland.
Well done to Audrey on organising such a great weekend for our ladies, on Thursday they play for Kath's Kup.
It's been brilliant to see so many kids around the club over the last few weeks as they make the most of their summer holidays, our pro Adam Powell has run a number of successful day camps and his junior Academy is growing in numbers every week.
On Sunday there was a good turnout for the latest junior on course competition, a lot of the kids have been playing plenty of golf and this was shown with some remarkable scores. Special mentions to young Javier Lang who scored a fantastic 79-24 = nett 55 playing off the yellow tees, in form Ben Barrow playing off his new 15 handicap scored a nett 66 and Jonah Hayes scored a fine nett 63 off the red tees.
The next junior competition is on Sunday 21st August and it's a special Olympics themed one with fun games starting at 12pm.
The seniors played round five of their nine hole Summer League on Tuesday morning, the weather stayed fine and there was a four way tie for first place on 20 points, after a card play-off the winner was Tom Hutchinson. In second place was Dennis Cherry third place went to Jim Fergie.
Next week the seniors are on the Vice-Captains away day organised by Bob Bowen.
