Welcome to another action packed newsletter, hopefully you all enjoyed watching a dramatic and slightly controversial US Open unfold at Oakmont. Despite British players, such as Shane Lowry and Lee Westwood, dropping away in the last round, it was great to see American Dustin Johnson defy a controversial rules decision and walk away with the famous trophy after so many near misses in the majors, including a runner-up spot last year. It was an exciting tournament highlighted by some great golf, none more so than Sergio Garcia's brilliant bunker shot for birdie on the 299 yard par 3 eighth hole - yes that's right a near 300 yard par 3 hole, luckily none of our par 3 holes are quite that demanding!
Have a look at Sergio making the fearsome eighth hole look easy here.

Birdie Consulting Scratch Trophy
Our Birdie Consulting Scratch Trophy was played on Sunday and the course was presented in fantastic condition, with the greens running well. It has been a trophy dominated by junior golfers over the last five years, and England international Rhys Nevin-Wharton had won the trophy for the last four years, but he was unable to play this time around so it was left for another one of our youngsters, Cheshire players Kieran Underwood and Tom Duncalf had to battle it out to put their names on the trophy for the first time.
In the end it was 5 handicapper Kieran that prevailed after a three birdie round of gross 74, Tom came second just a shot back on 75 after two costly double bogeys on the back nine. Well played Kieran a worthy winner!
In the nett section it was the in form Wendy Lock that took first place with a fine nett 64, her handicap has now fallen to 32.
In second place was 13 handicapper Chris Newton on nett 66, and in third place was Gary Cashmore, who was obviously using his newly fitted driver to good effect with a nett 67.
In celebration of Euro 2016 taking place we asked golfers to dress in their country's colours - so we got a lot of white and red outfits including the Martin, Chris and Gareth here!
The next competition is another big one - it's the Club Championship on Saturday 2nd July starting at 10am.

I'll Have What Dustin's Having
Our best selling range of woods in the shop at the moment is the TaylorMade M2 range, they're also used by big hitting US Open winner Dustin Johnson - so they must be pretty good!
With all the buzz about the M2 range it's perfect timing that we have a TaylorMade fitting day next Thursday 30th June from 3-7pm, you can enoy a FREE half hour custom fitting session with a TaylorMade expert on any of their 2016 range of clubs - we will also have some great discounts and deals if you make a purchase on the day!
The slots left are 3.30pm, 4.30pm, 5pm and 5.30pm - if you would like to book a slot contact me here.
Rhys's Tennessee Scramble
As many of you will be aware one of our talented young members - Rhys Nevin-Wharton is embarking on a golf scholarship at the famous Tennessee University in August, Rhys plays off plus two and has represented Cheshire and England for the last few years so we have every hope he could make a great career in the golfing world and he is thoroughly looking forward to his time in America.
Rhys joined us as a ten year old and his first handicap then was 14 - so he has always been pretty good!
As a nice little send off for Rhys we're holding a Tennessee Scramble competition on Saturday 30th July starting at 10am, it's open to members and non-members and we're looking for teams of four, although you could play as a three, there will be some great prizes on offer and everyone is encouraged to wear the Tennessee colour which is orange!
Look out for an entry sheet going up on the club noticeboard in the next week but keep the date free in your diaries!
We've moved a few things around in the shop after we had some visitors over from America last week, the head of marketing for Titleist who is based at their HQ in Massachusetts called in on a whistle stop tour of the area before he flew out to Spain. He gave us some good advice about our displays and the shop is looking better than ever now, call in to have a look! Here are some of our latest offers for you to take advantage of.
