June Medal review
It was a warm and sunny June Medal on Saturday and conditions were a little too hot for some but 13 handicapper Stuart Gray had no issues as he came out on top with a fine nett 65 including a steady total of 10 pars and 7 bogey's, his new handicap is 12.
Second place went to our Cheshire junior player and 7 handicapper Kieran Underwood with a nett 68, the highlight of his round was a birdie on the fifteenth, in third place was Alan Tayler with a solid nett 69 - a good score considering he had a two shot penalty for playing from the wrong tee (the second time he's done that this season!).
Well done also to James Eaton who scored two two's on the back nine.
This Sunday we play the Maddock Trophy named after our Honorary President and first club Captain Colin Maddock, Colin is out in the first group at 12:04pm.
US Open Sweepstake
It's just over two weeks now until the US Open at Oakmont, it promises to be a great tournament played at one of the world's toughest golf courses with leading players such as Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth all having won recently it's offers a mouth-watering prospect and we will be showing all four days Sky TV coverage in the clubhouse.
As always we are having a US Open sweepstake, for just £1 a ticket you can pick a name out of the hat and there will be prizes if you pick the tournament winner or runner up - we'll also give a prize for the player who is in last place after two rounds so if you pick a duffer out of the hat you can still win!
Our sweepstake tickets always sell out so make sure you come into the shop to buy your tickets soon!
'I hope that now the weather is picking up that you are all getting plenty of golf in, we've had two team match successes recently against Oak Royal and Woodside. As you may have heard my son Kieran got the better of me in the singles knockout with a 4&3 win, his eagle attempt on the 15th was close enough for me to concede the match.
It has been great to see so many new names representing Hartford with more making their debut this week against Cheadle, well done to all the winners and those who have shot their personal best rounds in the past month. I am hoping to break 80 for the first time during this Summer which will hopefully see me reduce my handicap towards 14. A special congratulations to Paul Foster on his first Major in the Barnes Trophy and to Ian Wardle for his hole-in-one on the fifth hole a few weeks ago.
It is good to see the honesty coming through for those paying up after their visit to the Captain's Pond. As well as fund raising I will also be leading a Make a Difference Day project on the 1st and 2nd August at the School where we will be gardening and painting so anyone that wants to give something back to the community during their spare time please let me know. Some employers promote citizenship activity so those working may even get a day off. I am thinking that we may even do a roll up down the club afterwards.
At the end of July I am organising a Charity Golf Day with Bacon Rolls at Hartford on arrival, 9 hole Texas Scramble, the over to Pryors Hayes for Soup and Sandwiches followed by 18 hole Team Betterball and then some food when we finish. Let me know if you are interested by clicking here, we will be looking for sponsors and prize donations as we build up to it and posters will be up soon as we look to raise funds for the sensory room at Russett School.
Happy golfing and hopefully I will get to play with a lot of you in the next few weeks.
Regards Paul Underwood'
The seniors Summer League lived up to it's name on Tuesday as they played the third round in very warm conditions and there was a bumper turnout of 39 players, nine hole Stableford's certainly suit Bob Bowen as he won in this format for the third time in a row, and he still moans about his handicap being too low!
Bob scored 20 points to take first place, he just edged out Pete Dawson who also had 20 points on a card play-off, third place went to Paul Green on 19 points.
On Monday the seniors had an away day at Pryors Hayes, the winner was Alan Nevin with 34 points, well done again to Bob Bowen who had an eagle on the 17th hole.
Next Tuesday the Seniors play against the ladies section starting at 9:08am, this is always a keenly contested affair, we'll bring you a full match report next week!
There's still plenty going on in the shop, we've had plenty more happy golfers visiting our fitting studio including a chap who increased his 7 iron distance by over 20 yards by hitting the new TaylorMade M2 iron with the right set up for him. If you want to improve your golf then the Complete Equipment Solution is a no brainer, we will give you a FREE club fitting and if you make a purchase then you also get a FREE follow up lesson. This offer is available until the end of June so you have a few more weeks to take advantage, book your session here.
This week we have a number of good deals on golf balls, maybe you can take advantage and stock up on your favourite ball for the season:
