Greetings from Tim and Paul at Hartford Golf Club
Hartford Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

We played our first major of the golf season on Saturday - the Inaugural Trophy, and the winner was Paul Underwood with a nett 68. There was a full field of 45 of Hartford's finest golfers playing and the course was in fantastic condition but some tricky pin positions and a swirling strong wind made scoring difficult. It was the winter Order of Merit winner, Paul Underwood who battled the elements the best to score a one under par nett 68. The CSS was 70 which showed how tough the course was playing. Another steady golfer was in second place, Gareth Eaton scored nett 69 including a birdie and five pars in his last seven holes. In third place was Ian Wharton also on nett 69, Steve Holehouse won nearest the pin and Simon McFarland had the longest drive.

With this win Paul Underwood has taken the early lead in the summer Order of Merit, with Antony Green in second and Steve Holehouse lying third.

The draw has taken place for the LJ Percival Singles Knockout and the I & J Daines Pairs Knockout competitions. Please note that the preliminary round of the Singles has to be played by Sunday 18th May. You can view the draws by clicking here

There is another competition this Saturday, the May Medal starts at 12pm and on Monday there is a Bank Holiday Stableford also starting at 12pm.

Correct equipment = better golf

From a club fitting point of view the top three in the Inaugural Trophy and the Ladies Barnes Trophy have all recently purchased clubs from us and had club fitting sessions. In every case having the right equipment has helped these golfers take their game to the next level with improved performances, the proof of this is shown in better scores and reduced handicaps, and if you are playing better golf this gives you more enjoyment, something we all want!

National Golf Month has now begun

May is National Golf Month and we are fully behind it here at Hartford Golf Club. We have plenty going on for both new and current golfers, for example our PGA professional Adam Powell is offering a FREE 30 minute lesson for you and a friend that you may like to introduce to the game of golf and we have ten different taster and refresher sessions planned throughout the month.

New improved power tees on driving range

If you visit our driving range you will notice that we have installed 12 of the latest new power tees that have replaced the old models, they are the latest state of the art models the same as used at world famous venues such as St. Andrews, the Belfry and Wentworth. If you haven't seen the new power tees in action why not call in and give them a demo by hitting a few balls on the driving range, each time you strike the ball a new one will automatically be placed on the tee meaning quick, easy and convenient practice!

Evelyn wins Ladies Barnes Trophy

Evelyn Vass is clearly enjoying the new TaylorMade irons she was fitted for as she won the first board competition of the ladies season - the Ladies Barnes Trophy on Sunday with a fine nett 69. Evelyn has now won two and finished as runner up in the other of her last three ladies competitions and is playing some great golf with her handicap dropping to 15. In second place was Julie Daines with a nett 72 and Lady Captain, Jill Bebbington was third with nett 74.

The ladies have entered the West Cheshire Shield this year, they played their very first competitive match away against Pryors Hayes and it was a tough start as they suffered a 6-1 defeat. Despite the result, the ladies enjoyed a friendly welcome and they will have gained valuable matchplay experience. The next match they play is against Heswall and with home advantage I am sure that the ladies will put up a good performance.

The next ladies competition is a nine hole Stableford on Thursday 8th May. Please note that the weekend Ladies May Stableford has moved to Sunday 18th May (it was originally scheduled for 11th May).

Seniors draw with Sandbach Seniors

The Seniors played their first team match of the season away at Sandbach last week and the result was a good 4-4 draw. Seniors Captain, Graham Bower praised his teams performance and the good condition of the course at Sandbach and the return match is coming up soon next Tuesday 6th May.

The April 18 hole Senior's Stableford was played in glorious sunny conditions on Tuesday and there was a great turn out of 31 players. The winner was none other than the Captain, Graham Bower with a score of 39 points, Graham's best hole was a fine birdie on the sixth. In second place was Tom Hutchinson who scored 38 points, Tom recently had a driver fitting with us and it's clearly helping his game! Peter Dawson came third also with 38 points. Well done also to Geoff Dodd who scored the only two on the 16th hole.

Last week the Senior's Texas Scramble was won by the team of John Sykes, Rhett Butler, Paul Green & Roy Strefford with a fantastic score of nett 22.75

Make your GPS do the work

Today's distance measuring devices are accurate to within a yard, giving you precise yardages to the flag. But that's only of any use to you if you know how far you hit each iron. Follow these guidelines to achieve just that.
