Inaugural Trophy Review
We played our first major of the season on Saturday, as we played the Inaugural Trophy, so called because it was the very first trophy played for, when the club was founded back in 2001.
As befits a board competition, conditions were tricky and there was a strong field competing with the winning score coming from 6 handicapper, James Eaton.
James had a few wobbles after double bogey's on holes six and nine but he dug in on the back nine and as the old adage says 'majors are won on the back nine'. This proved the case, as with the pressure on, James knew he needed a strong finish and he showed his class when it mattered, playing the last five holes in a quite brilliant two under par - a finish worthy of any major winner!
Second place went to young Javier Lang, who had made the most of his school holidays working hard on his game and he shot a very creditable nett 69. Captain Paul Underwood made a very respectable effort to retain his defence of the Trophy but a painful triple bogey on the last scuppered his hopes and he had to settle for third place.
The next competiton is the May Medal on Sunday, 1st May. Please note that the first tee-time is 10:52am.
Daily Mail Foursomes News
We are very pleased to report that Patrick Scanlan and Gareth Leigh have continued their run in the Daily Mail Foursomes, they beat a pair from nearby Sandiway by a convincing 5 & 4 margin, on Sunday. They're now in the third round - well done lads!
Midweek Medal Review
We played our first Midweek Medal of the season last Wednesday and there was a good turn out, the winner was Bobby Williams with a nett 67. You'll know Bobby as the brave (or mad!) golfer who wears shorts no matter what the weather! It's fair to say Bobby didn't get off to the best of starts on Wednesday but just like the postman he is
- he always delivers!
A birdie on hole fifteen was the highlight of Bobby's nett 66 winning round and we don't think he'll be off a 27 handicap for too long this season. 11 handicapper Andy Kelsall also scored a nett 66 but had to settle for second place and Chris Whalley came third with a nett 67.
There is another Midweek competition coming up on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May starting at 12pm.
Nine Hole Stableford
There was a close finish in the latest Ladies, nine hole, Stableford. Ann Broster and Di Sommerville both scored 21 points, but Ann took the win after a great run of five pars in a row, which gave her the better back six score. Third place went to Wendy Wren on 19 points.
Trade In Trade Up
The shoe trade in deal is also proving popular - you can get up to £20 OFF a new pair of FootJoy, Nike, Under Armour, or Skechers shoes, when you trade in your old pair of shoes. Click here to learn more.
Remember we have two great 'trade in trade up' deals running throughout April, and we know that a lot of you have already taken advantage.
The lithium trolley batteries have been selling like proverbial hot cakes, as many of you have taken the chance to upgrade to a lithium battery with £25 off the normal price for trading in an old battery.
Why should you get a lithium battery?
Well they're lighter and more portable as well as charging quicker, but the main thing is that they last so much longer than a lead acid battery (approx 2000 charges compared to just 300 for a lead acid battery) with a warranty of up to 5 years they are built to last and offer great value - pretty soon everyone will be using a lithium battery so now is the perfect time to convert!
